The successful candidate will use theirmaintenance expertise to ensure that the equipment is running at optimal levelsat all times. The Operation s Technician will be responsible for all aspects ofproduct manufacturing and equipment maintenance to include preventivemaintenance, troubleshooting and repair - this will involve true ownership.This is an excellent opportunity for experienced mechanics, recent graduates oftechnical degree programs, or mechanically talented persons with CGMPmanufacturing and leadership experience. We are seeking candidates that desireto be responsible for all aspects of the manufacturing process and desiring tobe a part of a diverse operations team with daily activities that go beyondtypical roles of completing PM tasks and responding to equipment downtime. Therole offers opportunities to obtain in-depth process / equipment knowledge andleadership experience in an empowered, team driven environment.The Operations Technician will troubleshoot, maintain,and operate process and process support equipment in support of vaccinemanufacturing operations. The Merck Durham facility boasts an empowered cultureand as such, the Technician is a self- directed employee part of a team that isresponsible for providing support, direction and training in the operationsarea, in clean room conditions. Develops standard operating procedures (SOP's)and preventative maintenance (PM's) plans as requested and conducts in-processtesting as needed. Performs check-in, set-up/preparation of equipment,cleaning/sterilization, changeover of lines and general housekeeping andperforms general maintenance and troubleshooting. Follows proper procedures formaintaining equipment, supplies and facilities in a sterile environment and isresponsible for written documentation of activities. Actively supports,participates and embraces an empowered team culture including significantinteraction with Quality, Technical Operations, Engineering and other groups asrequired.Responsibilities:- Setsup, adjusts, repairs, and maintains all process equipment- AssistsInstrument Technicians and Automation Engineers as required- Preparestechnical documentation on an as needed basis- Participatesin the establishment of new equipment and the improvement of existing processequipment.- Providestechnical specifications and information to Quality, Manufacturing,Process-Project Engineers, and other MMD requestors- Maintainsprocess equipment by developing/performing PM's, installing new equipment,documenting work using a computerized maintenance management system (SAP) andother duties as requested by the Mechanical Services Technician.- Performspreventative maintenance inspections and prepares inspection reports concerningoperation of equipment and mechanical condition of equipment.- Responsiblefor participating in new equipment installations by interfacing with equipmentvendors and recommending spare parts, selecting lubrication processes andassisting process project engineers.- Responsiblefor performing assignments in conformance with appropriate Regulatory (GMP's)and department Standard Operating Procedures which assure the quality of ourproducts.- Demonstratedability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical components.- Performgeneral troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment while maintainingproduction schedule.- Providetraining to others.- Set-upand prepare equipment for ongoing operations.- Operatevarious computer controlled process support/process equipment (i.e. washer,autoclave, filling line, lyophilizer, cap/inspect machines, etc.).- Followinstructions for completion of job tasks.- Completewritten documentation of work performed.- Cleaning& Environmental Monitoring.QualificationsMerck is an equal opportunity employer, Minority/Female/Disability/Veteran  proudly embracing diversity in all of its manifestations.
