Your tasks and responsibilities

Your challenge will be to : Drive and manage Crop Efficiency (CE) Trait Research (TR) within Bayer Crop Science (BCS) to ensure the efficient and robust delivery of innovative and differentiating trait based solutions in all crops in coordination with Breeding & Trait Development, Small Molecules and Biologics. Main tasks : Contribute to defining the global CE strategy in collaboration with CE leaders from other R&D functions and leading the strategy’s implementation in Trait Research. - Lead Crop Efficiency indication for all major crops and across sites in Trait Research, establish a competitive R&D pipeline delivering new traits for Crop Efficiency in key crops for BCS with an emphasis on wheat. - Translate business objectives into innovative research projects; focus and prioritize projects for each crop according to priorities defined by portfolio managers in line with Strategy priorities. - Plan and manage projects in the framework of an integrated R&D portfolio as part of global solutions developed with Breeding & Trait Development, Small Molecules and Biologics; drive cooperation across Research. - Ensure BCS is gaining/maintaining leadership in the area by focusing on innovation and on most attractive and differentiating leads with game-changing potential. - Set clear objectives and establish effective research plans with deliverables and milestones with the program leaders leading Crop Efficiency projects. - Review, evaluate progress of projects and take decisions to ensure the achievement of the objectives and optimal use of resources. To ensure the efficient delivery of high quality products in phase 2 by monitoring progress across phase 0 - phase1. - Present CE TR project strategy and progress in different R&D governance bodies of BCS - Ensure competitiveness and project/product portfolio via proactive IP strategy incl. addressing IP portfolio gaps; ensure IP protection securing value generation along the whole product lifecycle. - Strive for the best balance between research activities conducted in-house and with third parties for the respective indication with the support of Alliance Management in order to establish strategic partnerships and, in coordination with the Research Indication Leader, the best scientific and technologic network for the indication. As a member of the Trait Research Leadership Team, prioritize resource allocation and people strategy. - Ensure a high performance culture that emphasizes trust, decisiveness, accountability, results as well as encourages and rewards innovation in Trait research. - Reinforce Bayer values and contribute to the BCS people strategy for effective human resource/talent management. - Engage in activities for societal acceptance of the TR technologies.

Who you are

• PhD (or equivalent through experience) in Life Sciences with minimum 10 years’ experience in achieving depth understanding of plant Biotechnology. • At least 10 to 15 years of experience in research, management of research programs internally and/or international collaborations. • Strategic mindset and Leadership capabilities to inspire and empower a team as well as to challenge the team members to the best of their abilities. • Values differences that contribute to the goals within Trait Research and beyond; demands accountability and instills trust. • Innovative, result-driven and open-minded towards newly emerging solutions. • Team player, ability to interact with any stakeholder to translate crop priorities into research projects, ability to cooperate with any other stakeholder function in R&D and beyond. • Good communication/presentation and networking skills.
