Lilly Oncology is committed to delivering against our corporate objective to Make Life Better  for patients and our people. A critical component of the Discovery Oncology organization that is required to execute this strategy is our centralized In Vivo Pharmacology Group. This group of associate and technical staff supports the entire continuum of the drug discovery process from lead generation, to lead optimization and post-candidate selection for all Discovery Oncology.

The candidate will conduct in-vivo pharmacological experiments using assays relevant to the development of therapeutics for Oncology. The candidate will perform experiments independently and will provide technical support for studies executed within the In Vivo Pharmacology Group. After a period of time and training, the candidate will transition into the AM technician role (First shift, 5:30 AM - 2:00 PM). They will assume primary responsibility for weekday morning dosing for all ongoing BID and TID studies, and therefore, must be highly skilled in dosing techniques by all routes. Candidates must be able to work independently and in close collaboration with scientific teams, multi-task effectively and operate under direct technical supervision from the department manager.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Dosing, Formulation, Lab Support, Study Implementation and Conduct (90%)

Responsible for morning dosing events for ongoing studies

Execute in vivo studies that require basic animal handling techniques for rats and mice, observation skills, tumor cell implantation, ability to dose by various routes (IP, IV, PO, Subcutaneous), and basic necropsy skills

Responsible for overtime dosing support of Oncology studies on weekdays and weekends

Responsible for assistance with dosing, formulation of IVPG compounds, and necropsy of studies conducted by other IVPG members

Responsible for routine lab maintenance and upkeep including but not limited to lab waste management, preparation of compound vials and gavage needles, compound ordering and maintenance of lab supplies

Responsible for compliance with animal care and use protocols and compliance with laboratory research and animal care and handling procedures

Adherence to good research practices, SOPs and notebook documentation standards


Study Analysis and Follow-Up (10%)

Responsible for analyzing data from in vivo studies

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum 2+ years in vivo research/animal lab science experience or associates degree in animal science, biology, or related field.

  • Completion of Post Offer Exam, Completion of Work Simulation or Completion of Administrative Skills Testing if applicable.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Open to working assigned shift and weekend overtime
  • This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend annually for up to 4 years.
