Responsibilities This entry level scientist position is in Diabetes and Complications Research. The applicant will be directly involved in a variety of drug discovery projects for metabolic/endocrine diseases. This position will primarily involve in vivo compound testing in various rodent models of diabetes, obesity and cardio-metabolic disease. The applicant must be a task-oriented and self-motivated worker who is capable of following research protocols with some guidance.Key Objectives/Deliverables Participation in the development, optimization and validation of in vivo experiments and aid the group in understanding the in vivo biology of target engagement. Perform acute and chronic in vivo studies (glucose and insulin tolerance tests, hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp studies, etc.) including animal handling, blood and biopsy collection, measurement of body weight, body composition, and food intake as well as test article formulation and administration by oral and parenteral routes.Perform small animal surgical procedures including, but not limited to, rodent catheterization and mini pump implantation.Analysis of data in these experiments including presentation of data in spreadsheet and graphical form with descriptive statistical analysis. 33033BR Basic Qualifications High School / GED or Associates Degree in biology/animal science/veterinary technology with a minimum of 4 years of laboratory research experience in the handling of small laboratory animals, and some familiarity with basic lab techniques.ORA minimum Bachelor's Degree with 1 year of laboratory research experience (handling of small laboratory animals, familiarity with basic lab techniques)Completion of Post Offer Exam, Completion of Work Simulation or Completion of Administrative Skills Testing if applicable.Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Additional Skills/Preferences Proven ability to work in flexible, team-oriented environment as well as independent execution of standardized assay protocols with some guidance.Applicant should be able to arrange, modify and organize methods for in vivo studies and modify procedures when warranted.Experience with rodent metabolic disease models, with some knowledge of small animal surgery techniques. Experience working with radioisotopes, chemical, and biological hazards.Additional experience in cell culture and molecular/biochemical techniques would be a plus. Oral/written communication/listening skills in English are essential.Strong relationship-building and interaction skills with peers and management. Additional Information Flexible scheduling is a requirement. The position is full-time (40 hrs/wk), but not all regularly scheduled work hours will occur Mon-Fri from 8 AM-4:45 PM. There is a requirement to work occasionally early and/or after-hours or on weekends.
