This position will utilize a strong knowledge of precision measurement science (Metrology), mathematics, physics, and electronics to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, maintain and repair instrumentation and control systems within a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. All duties must be performed in compliance with established company, department, and safety policies and procedures within a cGMP-regulated facility.
The incumbent will execute daily work assignments and ensure timely completion of all scheduled and unscheduled events for manufacturing process instrumentation, hygienic and non-hygienic utility systems equipment and controls, and analytical laboratory instruments. The Senior Technician will complete a wide range of tasks, with focus on performing moderately complex assignments under minimal supervision where judgment is required in resolving problems and making routine recommendations. The individual in this role will collect, compile, measure, summarize, and record data obtained during scheduled calibration and/or unscheduled work requests and document electronically within a validated database. This position will also provide hands-on technical training to department personnel on correct and accurate methods for testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation and controls.
This position will work in conjunction with Facilities, Engineering, Validation, Manufacturing, and Quality Control Laboratory Departments to help the company and all of its personnel to reach their goals in providing a safe, clean, and efficient environment.
Perform routine calibration of instrumentation, on a predetermined schedule, within the following disciplines: Analytic, Conductivity, DC & Low Frequency Electromagnetic, Flow, Level, Mechanical, Optical, pH, Pressure, Temperature, Time, Speed, and Weight.
Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, design, installation, and configuration of equipment, instrumentation and control systems:
Identify and correct measurement errors.
Replace instrumentation and controls as needed.
Maintain configuration management to ensure compliance of the system.
Redline drawings, engineering documentation and other technical specifications.
As necessary, provide input and support for the design, installation, and upgrade of instrumentation and control systems.
Execute moderately complex assignments to support Metrology, Facilities, and/or Engineering Projects.
Identify “Out of Tolerance” conditions and perform corrective actions to return the device to within specification. Assist Management with investigating and documenting the potential impact that the “Out of Tolerance” condition may have had on the instrumentation and process.
Oversee contractors on an as needed basis: provide training, escort, initial document review, periodic safety inspection, and periodic compliance checks.
Develop and/or revise calibration procedures (CP’s) while looking for ways to improve how calibrations and troubleshooting is performed in an attempt to make those practices more efficient.
Provide emergency response as needed and mandatory “on-call” support on a rotating basis.
Provide support and training to Instrument Technicians to improve their abilities and increase their technical knowledge.
Maintain secondary and/or working standards and tools, perform verification prior to and upon return from vender certification.
Remain current on all required training through Electronic Learning Management System.
High School Diploma/GED
A minimum of 7 years hands-on technical automation experience or
Advanced education (BA/BS or Associate Degree) with minimum 2 years experience
Completion of Post Offer Exam, Completion of Work Simulation or Completion of Administrative Skills Testing if applicable.
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
Experience working within a Biopharmaceutical Facility or equivalent is preferred.
Strong ability to troubleshoot, repair, align, and optimize precision equipment.
Instrumentation Technical Training Certificate (CCT / ISA / PMEL / TMDE) or equivalent preferred.
Strong knowledge of instrumentation, PLC’s, and single loop controls within the following disciplines: Analytic, Conductivity, DC and Low Frequency Electromagnetic, Flow, Level, Mechanical, Optical, pH, Pressure, Temperature, Time, Speed, and Weight.
Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) experience.
Must be able to adhere to gowning requirements and aseptic technique when working the clean room environments.
Good documentation practices.
Must meet physical requirements of the job as follows:
Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 55 lbs (25 kg) consecutively.
Must have the ability to bend, reach, stretch, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces in order to complete job tasks.
Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.
Must possess good organizational, communication and time management skills.
Must possess a strong attention to detail, be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures, Calibration Procedures, and work instructions.
Must be a self-motivator that is able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Must strictly adhere to all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
Must be able to perform general math and algebra functions and have a basic understanding of statistics.
Low Voltage Electrical Safety Training (NFPA-70E) is preferred
