  • We are seeking an experienced Team Leader - Biology for our Discovery Services site.
  • A key member of the Biology department; this role will provide scientific and operational leadership to a small number of project teams in the Biology Department. In particular, to lead target and drug discovery (HTS) projects using primary cells, stem cell and/or 3D cell cultures.


Job Responsibilities
  • Manage, lead, motivate and develop a section of research staff (5 or 6 direct) in a fair and even way in accordance with company directions and policies.
  • Help to recruit, motivate and develop talented individuals for a variety of technical roles.
  • Provide scientific and technical leadership to the client project teams on all aspects of cell biology driven projects - look to maintain and improve efficiency and capacity of the project teams through automation, communication, outsourcing and innovation.
  • Ensure a high level of scientific standard is maintained on all programs.
  • Maintain a current awareness of drug discovery technologies and approaches relevant for target and drug discovery.
  • Interface directly with clients and internal customers to understand needs and deliverables and define appropriate strategies (scientific and economic) that will deliver revenue and margin goals
  • Work with BD team to maintain client satisfaction and identify and secure new business 
  • Contribute to the management and performance of the Biology department through participation at relevant meetings and taking on selected responsibilities relevant to the role (e.g. data handling for high content work, recruitment of staff, resource planning, etc.)


Requirements:
The following are minimum requirements related to the Team Leader - Biology position. 
  • BSc or MSc in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in a Project Leader role
  • Familiarity with a variety of assay technologies 
  • Experience in running HTS or cell biology projects
  • Expertise in utilising primary (human) cell based assays for drug discovery projects
  • Experience in incorporating stem cell derived cells into phenotypic assays
  • Ability to discuss and debate data and project strategy with demanding clients and scientific experts
