The Therapeutic Area Medical Affairs Manager (“T.A. MAM") is a therapeutic and disease expert who develops on-going professional relationships with healthcare practitioners to help achieve positive health outcomes for patients. The T.A. MAM provides accurate information about Merck products, clinical science, and quality management in a balanced and credible manner consistent with the regulatory environment and Merck’s ethical standards. This position serves as a resource for the Subsidiary Medical Affairs management team on strategic planning and provides mentoring for other team members.

This position is based in Merck Carolina and does not include relocation assistance.

Qualifications

Requirements:

*
MD, PharmD, or PhD

*
Clinical (patient care) or deep research experience in assigned therapeutic area(s) or similar beyond that obtained in the terminal degree program.

*
A minimum of 3 years’ experience and proven therapeutic competence in the disease area or ones related with the Therapeutic Area.

*
Capable of conducting doctoral level discussions with key customers.

*
Knowledge and/or experience working with infectious diseases, antibiotics and/or hospital's environment, preferred.

*
Certification in antibiotic stewardship, preferred.

*
Strong customer focus

*
Business and market knowledge, including quality management.

*
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and networking skills.

*
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex business documents, reports, journals, scientific journals and governmental regulations.

*
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from internal and external customers and regulatory agencies. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors. All of the aforesaid in both English and Spanish languages.

*
Must possess a thorough understanding of the FDA, OIG, HIPPA and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.

*
Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.

*
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).

*
Be able to travel up to 35% of the time within and outside Puerto Rico.
