Project Description

Description:
  • Our company is a very friendly company and a scientifically stimulating environment, bringing the best technologies and best scientists together for prosecuting cutting-edge science.
  • There is always space for learning and taking on new challenges in order to deliver innovative new medicines.
  • A fantastic place to work which values science and people.

THE ORGANISATION
  • Our company is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of innovative medicines and solutions to transform the lives of people living with severe diseases of the immune system or of the central nervous system.
  • With 8 600 people in approximately 40 countries, the company generated revenue of € 3.3 billion in 2014.
  • Our company aspires to be the patient-centric biopharmaceutical leader transforming the lives of people living with severe diseases.
  • Our company  is growing to become the next generation bio pharma leader and need exceptional individuals to achieve this goal.
  • We are looking for enthusiastic and talented professionals who thrive on challenge and change, and who want to make a difference and deliver results.
  • At our company human talent is the greatest asset of our organization – we continue to strengthen our talent pool, our organization and, our ability to deliver.
  • We are building the next generation bio pharma leader and need exceptional individuals to achieve this goal.
  •  We are looking for enthusiastic and talented professionals who thrive on challenge and change, and who want to make a difference and deliver results.

THE POSITION
  • You will focus on the development, optimization, validation, execution and interpretation of complex cell biology assays in vitro.
  • These assays will be human primary cell systems designed to be relevant to target mechanism and disease, and suitable for screening and/or profiling work.
  • Naturally, you will have high levels of technical expertise in high content screening technology, including flow cytometry, and/or high content imaging platforms.
  • Your work will support the identification and optimization of therapeutic molecules across small and large molecule projects, the execution of a range of primary and secondary in vitro studies aimed at the functional characterization of these entities and application of novel technologies to provide understanding and enable prosecution of the best targets.
  • You may be asked to take on a Primary Pharmacology Group (PPG) project champion lead, which involves representation of the entire PPG remit at project meetings as well as internal coordination of PPG resources for that project in conjunction with the group leaders and department head.
  •  You may also work to support activities at CROs and will be expected to bring forward new technical insights based on their original ideas.
  • PPG scientists are encouraged to build on their professional networks and expected to publish their data and present at relevant meetings and conferences.
  • Additionally, you will partner with project teams, chemistry, therapeutic area biology and other teams within Discovery Biology to ensure delivery of high quality in vitro data to support the specific needs of the project(s).  You will also provide strong scientific leadership to colleagues and project teams in terms of complex cell biology.

PROFILE
  • Applicants must have a strong scientific background and demonstrate a record of achievement both through scientific publications/patents and evidence of innovation and delivery in a drug discovery context.
  • They must have expertise in plate-based assay biology and direct experience of developing and optimizing cell-based assays in a wide range of formats, especially high content platforms.
  • Experience with relevant software tools, statistics and automation will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the fibrosis or immunology disease areas is desirable

Requirements:
  • The successful individual will have particular strength in high content cell based assays such as flow cytometry and / or image-based technologies (e.g. Cellomics arrayscan, MD IXM, Yokogawa CQ1) to reflect the increasing demand for these functional read-outs early in the screening cascade.
  •  Ideally, the individual will also have experience of working with a range of primary or complex culture systems (e.g., co-culture or 3D culture systems).
  • You will have direct experience of the design, development, optimisation and prosecution of a range of in vitro cell-based assays.
  •  This will include experience of pharmacological analysis and statistics relevant to in vitro screens.
  • Experience with relevant software tools, statistics and automation will be an advantage.
  • There should be evidence of a track record for delivery on project needs and timelines, supported by scientific publications/patents and evidence of innovation and delivery in a drug discovery context.
  • There must be strong evidence of effective communication and partnership, the ability to make clear recommendations on scientific decisions and priorities, as well as the ability to deliver difficult messages effectively and to challenge constructively.
  • In addition to technical skills, ideally the individual will be a highly-motivated and ambitious individual who will be keen to maximize their impact on project delivery. Through mentoring and coaching, they will push for scientific excellence.
  •  With strong communication skills, they will influence scientifically and operationally at both a project level and within PPG, and increasing company’s profile through publications in well-respected journals.
  • Experience of drug discovery would also be very favorable but not essential.
  • Excellent collaborative skills, providing constructive challenge and influence on scientific prosecution and/or experience of previous outsource work management is desirable.
