Project Description



Responsible for developing project plans from routine testing to moderately complex project, and coordinating the collection, preparation, and distribution of information necessary to ensure that study milestones are met as necessary.  Recommend and implement study / project management improvements.  Responsible for coordinating and/or developing routine to moderately complex proposals and cost estimates for existing business.
Participate in project kick off and planning meetings for specific projects.
Facilitate conference calls, as well as associated actions and deliverables.
Review information provided by clients and measure scope of project against current capacities and ensure all pertinent information is present.
Develop project plans for routine to moderately complex projects, including project initiation activities, communications, and cost estimates.
Develop turnaround times for associated routine testing as well as any medium to large projects to ensure timely release to Clients.
Manage the scheduling and timelines associated with Virology testing.
Field requests for technical or scientific information and provide necessary information back to the client.
Develop and provide project plans for the method development, re-qualification or re-validation of current or future Virology methods to ensure continued compliance with the regulatory agencies they reference.
Prepare and recommend critical milestone dates for execution of studies.
Perform continuous review of projects.  Communicate financial impact based on customer plans for strategic planning.  Monitor projects based on status, labor hours worked, and cost.  
Develop and provide project plans for the method development, re-qualification or re-validation of current or future Virology methods to ensure continued compliance with the regulatory agencies they reference.
Coordinate with internal departments, supporting labs, vendors, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure coordination and execution of study logistics.
Develop solutions and make recommendations for any roadblocks that would inhibit a milestone date being met (i.e., changes of work scope, material shipment delays, availability of study related inventory and equipment).
Communicate changes per sponsor requests to affected end users with agreement from management.  Verify that required resources are available per the proposed study design changes.  Ensure any schedule impact is reported to the manager in conjunction with resource scheduling and Client Account Management.
Work with Client Services to ensure timely proposals to clients.  Develop strategies to improve capacity utilization based on client proposals.
Meet with Client Account Management, Client Services and the Sales Team on a routine basis to discuss current and future Virology projects to ensure proper scheduling and add visibility to capacity availability and constraints.
Ensure that pricing information for assigned clients and projects is accurate.
Evaluate charged time billed to project codes within SAP against planned hours (project initiation forms), and be able to speak to any variance.
Verify with business development that additional prices have been communicated to the sponsor and approved prior to execution of change to the study design and/or protocol.
Ensure work is performed in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other applicable regulations.
Assist in production and updating of databases, spreadsheets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) provided to management.
Provide program and/or specific project updates weekly to clients and/or upper management.
Keep track of project timelines for forecasting purposes.  Be able to communicate forecasting information in a format usable to finance and management.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.


Education:  Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in biological sciences, business management or related discipline required.
Experience:  Minimum 5 years related experience in project management or in a laboratory or research environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Certification/Licensure:  None
Other:  Ability to multi-task, excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail required. Possess analytical thinking and problem solving skills.  Ability to prioritize and re-evaluate priorities as situations change.  Working knowledge of computer software (ERP systems, MS Office, MS Project, Excel and database experience preferred).  Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations.
Must regularly operate a computer and occasionally operate other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. 
Must regularly communicate with employees/clients and must be able to exchange accurate information verbally and in writing.
Must occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Must be able to move between the office and research areas and visit other buildings.
General office working conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
