Project Description

Role purpose 
  • Our company is in the process of building its global Corporate Communications team. 
  • This effort includes enhanced efforts to raise the profile of  company  internationally with campaigns that enhance the company’s visibility and reputation. 
  • Key to this effort, our company  is recruiting an experienced and well-rounded communicator with specific expertise in creating corporate campaigns and reaching global audiences via digital channels and through the media. 

Specifically, the successful candidate will be required to:
  • Create and implement content marketing campaigns to raise external awareness for company and enhance its reputation globally 
  • Manage and implement PR plans for external communications at a corporate level as required by the business in order to enhance and protect  company’s corporate reputation globally
  • Create and drive content marketing activities in collaboration with members of global Corporate Communications and teams in the Business Units. 
  • Manage digital channels.
  • Engage with global key media
  • Engage with company’s business units and markets to develop PR and content marketing activities, broaden their reach, and expand company’s corporate communications capabilities. 
  • Drive and manage operations activities in support of company’s global public relations plans and the wider corporate communications team 

Primary responsibilities
Management and implementation

Support the implementation of a strategic external corporate communications plan in support of the business, through:
  • Developing the external digital engagement strategy and the media strategy in close collaboration with the other members of the Global External Communications team
  • Managing roll-out of the digital public relations strategy at a tactical level, including supporting in the management of all company corporate communications platforms
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders, including media, and digital influencers
  • Maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders across the organization, such as the global Corporate Business Partners in company’s business units and Local Operating Companies to understand communications needs and opportunities, and to advise them on their activities 
  • Ensuring that all external corporate communications activities comply with company  operating procedures and relevant industry regulations
  • Continuously monitoring the external environment to identify trends, opportunities and issues as they relate to company’s corporate profile
  • Establishing measurable objectives and indicators for PR activities and digital engagement 
  • Managing agency relations on specific projects

Content Marketing
Create and drive content marketing activities in collaboration with the other members of global Corporate Communications and the Business Units:
  • Developing digital outreach plan and content
  • Managing digital channels
  • Maintaining working relationships with digital influencers (eg, bloggers)
  • Supporting in the delivery of digital trainings for internal spokespeople
  • Supporting in raising internal awareness for digital communications

Media relations
Nrture media contacts and drive specific media relations activities in collaboration with the other members of global Corporate Communications and the Business Units:
  • Acting as first point of contact for media enquiries
  • Maintaining working relationships with influential global journalists
  • Maintaining the digital newsroom and distribution tools
  • Supporting in the delivery of media training and briefings for internal spokespeople 
  • Maintaining working relationships with influential journalists
  • Developing key messages 
  • Co-ordinating company press events
  • Ensuring timely delivery of media results reports

Drive and manage specific operations activities as they relate to company’s global public relations plans, through:
  • Managing social media channels as needed on a day-to-day basis 
  • Supporting Global External Communications with setting and monitoring KPIs
  • Ad hoc project management of corporate communications projects and activities as required 
  • Collaborate within Global Corporate Communications to make sure that the developed activities have the widest possible effect:
  • Creating content in association with internal and external communications teams in Corporate Headquarters and from the business units 
  • Distributing content on all channels, including the global media program, and local content marketing

Secondary responsibilities:
General communications activities:
  • Driving and managing a number of communications projects and activities as required by the Head of Global External Communications in support of the wider external corporate communications team and its global public relations strategy to build and manage company ’s corporate reputation. 
  • This may include (but is not limited to) the following activities:
  • Key message development
  • Developing public relations materials and content 
  • Issues management
  • Media monitoring

The successful candidate will have
  • Experience (minimum of 5 years) in a pharmaceutical communications environment preferred, with a thorough grounding in the complexities and issues relating to operating in the global pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated success in managing public relations plans for external communications to meet corporate objectives and run global campaigns
  • Demonstrated success in media relations and digital engagement 
  • Highly developed written and oral communications skills
  • Strong managerial and tactical skills, as well as a creative and effective approach to problem solving
  • Ability to work in in a global, multicultural environment with the ability to influence without formal authority
  • Excellent English language skills; Japanese preferred
  • Ability to deliver in high pressure situations and with short deadlines
  • Corporate in-house experience, including working with agency teams
  • Agency-side experience a plus
  • Relevant academic qualifications (e.g. undergraduate or post-graduate degree in communication management, public relations, journalism, digital communications, health economics, bio-medical sciences or similar)
