The Regional Director (RD), Medical Science Liaisons (MSL’s) is a member of a field-based team of scientists who function as extensions of the Global Medical Affairs (GMA) organization.  The RD’s participate as part of the Global Medical Affairs Leadership Team, reporting to the GMA Group Head, with responsibility for oversight of the MSL team.  RD’s are responsible for setting the strategy and priorities for the region in alignment with the GMA strategy and priorities and assuring cohesive team management and direction of MSL’s across the nation through collaboration with other members of the GMA Leadership Team and members of GMA management.  Each RD supervises MSL’s assigned to their region (including staffing, skills development, performance assessment, goals/metrics, compensation management, and coaching).


  • Set the strategy and priorities for the region in alignment with the GMA strategy and priorities
  • Accountable to the GMA Group Head for the region:
    • Organization
    • Budget – inside and outside spend
    • Training plan
    • Compliance
    • Goals / metrics
  • Represent the GMA field organization in commercial, development, and GMA leadership forums
  • Represent the GMA field organization with internal and external collaborators
  • Supervise MSL’s/MSL territories assigned to them
    • Skills development and performance assessment
    • Mentoring
    • Career facilitation
  • Support appropriate cross-organizational initiatives as determined by Global Medical Affairs management 



Advanced degree in clinical/scientific discipline (MD, PhD, PharmD, or Nursing preferred).  Clinical or laboratory experience in Oncology-related setting and 5+ years pharmaceutical industry experience (preferably in Medical Affairs) desired. 

  • Direct reporting personnel management experience strongly desired (especially of field-based employees in a Medical Affairs role)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and analytical ability strongly desired
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/coach peers and subordinates desired
  • Scientific publication track record preferred
  • Competence with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based setting
  • Working knowledge of Regulatory/Compliance guidance (including OIG & PhRMA Code) relevant to industry interactions with customers
  • Track record of collaboration across complex organizations (preferably including pharmaceutical industry functions such as Marketing, Sales, Discovery, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical, Legal, etc.) strongly desired
