  • The Regional Director Medical Affairs holds primary responsibility for the execution of Medical Affairs strategies in his or her region that are aligned to the Global Medical Affairs Plans for the franchise (Vaccines). 
  • The RDMA leads a Regional Medical Affairs team in the region, which includes therapeutically aligned country medical affairs colleagues. 
  • They give direction to the country medical organizations for country medical affairs activities relevant for in-line and late stage development products in their franchise. You provide medical support to the franchise sometimes with an Associate Regional Medical Director in support. 
  • The RDMA is responsible for Scientific Leadership in the region. The RDMA reports to the Executive Director / leader of the Vaccine RDMA organization.

  • Participates in the development of Medical Affairs strategies (which are responsibility of the RDMA) for the region, which are aligned with and reflected in the Global Medical Affairs Plans for the franchise
  • Executes the Medical Affairs Plan in their own region, in collaboration with country medical affairs colleagues
  • Provides oversight and guidance to country medical colleagues about country medical affairs activities relevant for  products.
  •  Ensures alignment of country medical activities to franchise priorities
  • Provides medical expertise to Regional Marketing Leads (RMLs) and Regional Leadership (President, Chief Marketing Officer, Regional Medical Affairs Lead)
  • Executes Scientific Leader event planning in their region from the GHH perspective in collaboration with  Vaccines’ Global Health & Medical Affairs (GHMA) team and GDSAs from the Research Lab perspective
  • Scientific communication through contacts, meetings and presentations with/for key Scientific Leaders and stakeholders in accordance with applicable policy and guidance documents
  • Voice of authority and information on franchise science in region.
  • Collaborate with the development of drafts agenda for regional Advisory Boards and may chair them.
  • Contribute to Cross-Functional Team that brings together medical, commercial, policy, access, and communications leaders.

External activities:
  • Develop individual relationships with top regional scientific leaders through non-promotional scientific dialogue pertinent to company interest.
  • Executes Scientific Leader (SL) event planning for their region and has credible, non-promotional and informed scientific dialogue with key SLs.
  • Lead/participate in GHH medical and scientific forums (e.g. ad boards and EIFs) that involve regional SLs
  • Ensure relationships with key regional professional societies and organizations
  • Participate in global activities to provide regional perspective
  • Internal activities:
  • Execution of the Medical Affairs tactical Plan for the franchise in their region, aligned to and reflected in the Global Medical Affairs Plan
  • Support activities related to the Regional Medical Affairs team consisting of therapeutic area-aligned medical colleagues from the country affiliates (e.g., country medical managers)
  • Provides oversight and guidance to country medical colleagues about country medical affairs activities relevant for products.
  • Ensures alignment of country medical activities to franchise priorities
  • Provides medical/scientific support relevant for development of brand strategies to RMLs and Global GHH Teams
  • Support Data Generation efforts and according to directions provided by the RDMA leader, could participate in MISP Review Committees to align country clinical programs (MISP, local studies) from their region with global data generation and research strategies
  • Tracks progress, completion and publication of country studies
  • Addresses regional medical education needs (e.g., Country Medical Director, Medical Managers/Advisors, MSL training)

  • The ideal candidate would have experience in either (or both):
  • A pharmaceutical company with a footprint in vaccines where you have been supporting the local / regional medical vaccines strategy
  • Working for patients on the ground seeing how the treatment, education of patients and distribution of vaccines can provide real value.
  •  Candidates may have worked for public health institutions (such as WHO or GAVI) in the past.
  • Vaccines experience is required to bring this capability and knowledge to the company.
  • You must be comfortable with a high level of travel to developing countries.
