Project Description

Purpose of the Position
  • The Project Leader leads the research and/or development activities of a drug discovery or development project from inception to completion, i.e. from target nomination to IND or from IND through clinical development to market. 
  • Alternatively, a Project Leader may lead a technology activity aimed at improving or expanding the current Nanobody platform and its applications.
  • The Project Leader leads an interdisciplinary team, sourced from multiple line functions, and is responsible for:
  • defining the project strategy in line with company vision, medical, regulatory and commercial needs 
  • proposing annual goals for the project 
  • aligning the organization for the flawless execution of the strategy 


Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic leadership: the Project Leader leads an interdisciplinary team to   
    1. understand the different scientific challenges from bench to bedside and oversee the entire plan towards successful delivery on goals 
    2. develop a business plan and define the project goals (scientific, clinical, regulatory and commercial) 
    3. define the optimal research and/or development strategy and plan, including risk management and communication plans, in line with company strategy and vision 
    4. present the defined strategy and plan to, and seek endorsement from, the governance bodies 
    5. successfully execute the approved project plan by identifying the project needs, aligning the organization, managing stakeholders, identifying and bringing to resolution issues impacting the strategy and plan, managing the approved budget (external costs and internal resources) and pro-actively monitoring the project’s critical path 
    6. assist IP in defining the patent strategy and drafting patent applications 
    7. participate in licensing and due diligence activities 
    8. prepare a budget and resource forecast 
    9. track and document project progress   
  • Expertise   
    1. Has a solid knowledge of drug discovery and/or drug development and project management 
    2. Has, or is able to develop rapidly a good understanding of the Nano body platform, the science and technology behind the platform and understands the R&D process at
    3. Has, or is able to develop rapidly a high-level knowledge of the therapeutic target, the disease indication, and the commercial, competitive and IP landscape within the context of the project   
  • People management   
    1. Motivate and support team members to ensure an optimal and smooth functioning of the team 
    2. Mentor and guide team members 
    3. Provide performance feedback on team members to line directors 
    4. Manage stakeholders   
  • Communication   
    1. Lead project meetings 
    2. Ensure effective and timely communication and information flows between the project, line directors, senior management and, if applicable, external partners 
    3. Lead the preparation and presentation of the project deliverables and progress 
    4. Present at external scientific conferences 
    5. Manage the relationship with external partners including negotiation, reporting and communication

Minimum Qualifications
  • First degree in a scientific discipline; advanced degree such as PhD, MSc preferred; Project Management Certification an advantage 
  • Relevant industrial experience in a research or development setting 
  • MS Office and project management tools: proficient level 
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
