The successful candidate will be responsible for scientific and technical leadership of a team of peptide and small molecule chemists in the context of a drug discovery program. In this role, the incumbent will engage in synthetic and medicinal chemistry problem solving and work with team members to drive progress. He/She will collaborate across disciplines to contribute to project strategy, experimental design and may have project leadership responsibility. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for training and mentoring members of the team. As a Principle Scientist, the candidate will have collaborative engagement with the external scientific community and make direct contributions to Merck’s external reputation., The successful candidate must also have excellent interpersonal, cross functional collaboration and communication skills.

Qualifications

Education:

- Ph.D. in chemistry/related degree

Required:

- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in peptide synthesis, purification and analytical characterization including HPLC, MS and biophysical methods

- Experience in communication, collaboration and leadership skills in a team environment

- Track record of leadership in the training and mentoring of team members in peptide synthesis

- Publication record in the peptide literature
