Translational Development at Celgene
Celgene is a global biopharmaceutical company leading the way in medical innovation to help patients live longer, better lives. Our purpose as a company is to discover and develop therapies that will change the course of human health.  We value our passion for patients, quest for innovation, spirit of independence and love of challenge. With a presence in more than 70 countries, and growing - we look for talented people to grow our business, advance our science and contribute to our unique culture.

The Translational Development group based in the Mission Bay campus in San Francisco, CA is composed of clinicians and scientists who facilitate the transition of Celgene drug candidates from discovery through clinical development and life-cycle management. The late-stage development group focuses on translational development and post-clinical proof-of-concept studies of myeloid disorders, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), myelofibrosis and beta-thalassemia.  The group interacts closely with team members in discovery research, clinical pharmacology, early to late clinical development and biospecimen operations.  The core activities of the group are driven by knowledge of disease biology and expand on understanding of drug mechanism of action, rational determination of dose and dose schedules and biomarker development and implementation.

Summary and Scope
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow in the Translational Development and Diagnostics group based in San Francisco, CA. to conduct translational development research in myeloid malignancies.  The candidate will develop in vivo models of disease and primary cell culture and in vitro systems to understand the pathophysiology of myeloid malignancies and the effect of various therapeutics on disease progression, to impact current and future clinical programs.  This position will provide the candidate the opportunity to interface with other functions within the organization, such as clinical and discovery research, data science and bioinformatics.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Independently formulate scientific questions and plan and conduct experiments based on testable hypotheses.
2. Develop and utilize models of disease to understand the mechanism of action of therapeutic compounds, test drug combinations and explore mechanisms of resistance.
3. Present at internal meetings and external conferences, author patents based on their work and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

Skills/Knowledge Required:
1. Ph.D. degree in molecular and cellular biology, genetics, physiology or a related discipline.
2. Strong interest in translational research, particularly in the area of hematology/oncology.
3. A track record of rigorous bench research and independent thinking, with at least one first-author publication.
4. Highly motivated to contribute to the development of therapeutics for unmet medical needs.
5. Experience with small animal work.
6. Multiparameter flow cytometry.
7. Bone marrow and other primary cell culture systems.
8. Knowledge of transcriptional profiling, proteomics or metabolomics would be a plus, as well as the ability to analyze large data sets.
9. Enthusiasm to work in a team-based, collaborative environment.
10. Strong verbal and written communication and organization skills.
