Position Overview - Basic Functions & Responsibility
Under the general direction from the site MPS Lead, ensure the continuous improvement in business processes by providing guidance, Industrial Engineering technical expertise. Supports the organization based on MPS/Lean methodologies as well as focuses on the following:
- Facilitates the development and review of the site strategic plan
- Develops, implements and manages the site MPS Lean Leader strategy
- Responsible for standardization, improvement and implementation of the Merck Production System elements
- Manages and reviews the site portfolio management/governance process, supports updates and facilitiates performance reviews, metrics updates, etc.
- Governs site improvement programs and committees (eg. Kaizen, Six Sigma Stage Gate, Tier 5 Governance)
- Manages the site balanced scorecard and ensures process & outcome metrics are aligned
- Promotes a culture of continuous improvement (KATA/KAIZEN) and acts as lead for site, regional and divisional initiatives as requested
Provides statistical analyses for equipment and processes to identify areas for improvement.
Uses knowledge and experience to recognize discrepancies, potential issues and possible causes (including common and special cause) contributing to process variability.
Provide reports related to MPS implementation.
Ensures all led or supported projects and lean activities are completed in adherence to cGMP and Safety requirements with a particular focus on appropriate change control.
Supports safety, IH and Environment legislation, policies and guidelines are followed
Site expert in MPS/Operational Excellence tools and methodologies through strong capability and utilization of a broad variety of Lean tools & methods. Applies these tools and methods across the entire E2E Value Stream equally (includes all areas, functions, people – IPT’s & COE’s).
Leads & facilitates MPS implementation on site and supports related capability build.
Facilitates the site strategic planning process / Hoshin Kanri, including strategy development and process renewal for site leadership team, functional leaders and other key stakeholders
Maintains oversight of the site project portfolio, project governance process and liaises with key stakeholders to identify site process improvement intiaitives (parent and child A3’s, quick hit KAIZEN events, etc.)
Assists and Manages the site strategic portfolio through Tier 1-5/6 and works with site MPS Leader & L&D Lead to develop Change Execution strategies for key initiatives.
Develops, implements and maintains the site MPS Lean Leader program, including people development of as both mentor and leading projects.
Leads development, implementation and tracking of site improvement programs in alignment with operational area portfolio.
Participates in, leads and/or supports site, regional and divisional projects as required, including Kaizen events or strategic initiatives.
Communicates with other Merck SM LOB sites to learn and share best practices, including participation in communities of practices internal and external to Merck.
Manages, maintains, renews and continually improves all site Tier processes.
Maintains and updates the site Balanced Scorecard through Tier 5 and facilitates review process while ensuring lean metric alignment, develops metrics automation and improves methods for capturing benefits performance improvements.

Works directly with HR and L&D leads to deploy people development plans in support of site People and Learning & Development Strategy. Assists as necessary.
