Primary Purpose:
Maintains, reconditions, repairs, troubleshoots, adjusts, constructs, and upgrades various types of mechanical equipment throughout all areas of the plant as assigned using the skills, tools, equipment and materials made available to him/her. He/she will be working with other maintenance technicians, production technicians, project engineers, outside contractors, and many times by himself.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experiences: 

This position requires:

Knowledge of general and specific maintenance disciplines usually gained through a technical associate degree in mechanical disciplines. Position requires a minimum of 5 years experience in the mechanical field. Additional experience may substitute for the associate’s degree.  Candidate must have knowledge in the use of all types of maintenance tools, machinery and other equipment for his job. Computer experience required. The ideal candidate would also be a certified crane operator and a certified welder.

Key Responsibilities:

Be able to read and understand blueprints, drawings, maintenance repair manuals, and specification sheets.  Prepare sketches, select and request and requisition repair parts in accordance with equipment specifications.  Troubleshoot and repair various types of mechanical equipment.  Take measurements and layout work.  Cut, thread, assemble screwed pipe; prepare, glue, and assemble FRP and PVC pipe; weld carbon steel, galvanized steel and stainless steel.  Familiar with agitators, back-flow preventers, bearings, blowers, air compressors, cooling towers, mechanical drives, fans, filters, fire protection sprinkler systems, fittings, flanges, forklift trucks, gaskets, general carpentry, hoists, lubrication, maintenance shop equipment, man-lifts, mechanical seals, piping systems, portable hand tools, pressure vessels / tanks, pumps, regulators, rigging, safety relief devices,  steam boilers, steam traps, valves, welding, and welding equipment.  Familiar with lifting and rigging equipment.  Crane operator certification is desired.  Familiar with the uses and limitations of hand and power tools used in his trade.  Be able to use electrical arc welding equipment for the welding of steel materials, using both inert gas arc welding (TIG) and stick welding equipment as they apply to stainless carbon steel; uses of oxyacetylene torches as they apply to brazing and braze welding of metallic materials. Be able to select the proper type and size of welding rod to be used. Know how to set, level, shim, and align with its driver all types of mechanical process equipment which includes: agitators fans, pumps, motors, and drives. Be able to layout, measure, cut and fabricate structural steel framing from angle, channels, I beams, flat bar, and sheet materials.  Know and understand the plant’s fire protection systems, process systems, cooling and potable water systems.  Maintain plant equipment to maximize plant’s performance. On call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

High School/GED = 11 years experience required

Associates Degree Preferred
