The Procurement Consultant position provides the support for Product Research and Development (PRD) spend on materials and contract services for pre-commercial and clinical products in the large and small molecule pipeline. This role is responsible for working with primarily Product Delivery clients and develop and execute the sourcing strategies for clinical trial manufacturing, packaging, distribution, ancillary, comparator product and related services that enables the clients to deliver on their objectives. This candidate will lead the sourcing process from strategy development and supplier selection through contract and pricing negotiations and participating in ongoing supplier relationship management. This role requires strong working knowledge and experience with Lilly PRD operations and quality systems. The person in this position will closely with External Sourcing group in executing sourcing projects.

  • Interacting with Product Delivery management to develop a sourcing strategy for third parties consistent with the staffing plan and strategy of their business
  • Working with Product Delivery to identify and support sourcing projects that reduce risk,
    timeline or cost and add value without sacrificing quality
  • Leading sourcing projects including sourcing strategy development, market analysis,
    supplier negotiations and relationship management
  • Coordinate with External Sourcing and Product Delivery to manage outsourcing and
    supplier management activities related to any required project change order (pricing negotiations and final execution)
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of dynamics in the global markets and Pharmaceutical Industry including emerging markets such as China and India
  • Support Product Delivery operations and requirements by working directly with their leadership, IT, compliance, legal, finance, quality, operations and other functions to accomplish commercial objectives

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business or Technical)

  • Demonstrated understanding of pharmaceutical development, contracting manufacturing and experience in research/laboratory environment (including knowledge of cGMP requirements)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Procurement: category strategy, sourcing process, RFx, negotiations, contracting and preferably within the area of Pharmaceutical Outsourcing and rotations within Procurement
  • Proven ability to influence business decisions at the network level and senior management (internally and externally)
  • Excel in account management/business partnering using facilitative and consulting skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Transferable skill set for preparation and executing of commercial and internal client negotiations (i.e. Analytical skills, strategy planning, strategic thinking, detailed process planning and execution
  • Previous Procurement experience preferred
    Previous direct negotiation experience strongly preferred
    Previous experience within the Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industry
    Procurement rotations which have demonstrated breadth in working in different areas in support of Procurement activities

  • Some international and domestic travel (supplier visits and possible trade show attendance) – approximately 10-20%
