Responsibilities

BASIC SUMMARY:

Produce, coordinate, conduct and participate in the development of training programs. In addition, assist with the creation of training manuals as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Develop, train, and certify or coordinate training for new and active employees in all of the following areas, but not limited to:
Animal Welfare Policy and Procedures
Use and interpretation of Standard Operating Procedures
Use and interpretation of protocols
Introduction to IACUC
Introduction to TELSTAR
Specific department procedures
Introduce laboratory staff to administrative functions (e.g., protocol development through final reporting).
Introduce the administrative personnel to the vivarium and laboratory functions (e.g., first day dosing, clinical signs, blood collections, necropsy, etc.).  
Train and/or coordinate training for laboratory personnel in basic through intermediate level laboratory techniques and procedures.
Collaborate with Training Department management, cross-site personnel, and internal/external resources to develop and implement new training and improve the overall training program.
Develop, review, and/or revise current processes, SOPs, training standards, quizzes, proficiency standards, and other training documents.
Provide quality review for training records; provide summary of review findings to appropriate department and management personnel, recommend actions and implement changes as needed.  
Mentor staff with the goal of developing and improving their overall technical abilities. 
Mentor less experienced training personnel. 
Maintain, develop, and update all documents and databases used for the support and conduct of training tasks including but not limited to training standards, training records, training timelines, and proficiency standards. 
Discuss training program concepts, training techniques and training initiatives with internal and external clients.  Develop presentations and lead discussions as needed.
May serve as contact person for AALAS membership and certifications.  Provide proper documents for personnel seeking certification and registry status and be knowledgeable of the latest changes in the certification and registry program.
Document training activities and assess individual abilities.
Develop training schedules and produce departmental orientation materials for new hires.
Practice/maintain technical skill sets and procedures, work independently and follow SOPs and protocols.
Further self-training on new and established techniques with the goal of developing mastery.
Perform technical tasks to support completion of study tasks as needed.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) degree in a scientific discipline;  M.S. degree in a scientific/teaching discipline preferred.
Experience:  Two or more years experience in developing and conducting training.  One to three years of hands on technical experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting.  
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification desirable.
Other:  Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice guidelines.  Effective writing skills and verbal communication skills.  Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.  Must be able to effectively perform public speaking and utilize effective training principles.
