BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients. Intern Project Description:

The Facilities Reliability group summer intern will work on two major projects over the 3-month internship.

Projects will include (1) Operational strategy and planning for business continuity (2) Asset management assessments

Example details include:

  1. Facilities Operations strategy and planning for business continuity for utility systems:

    • Departmental strategic and tactical planning to support service level agreements of key customers including:

      • Alarm management optimization planning

      • Electrical load shed risk evaluation and planning

      • Cross functional service level agreement harmonization and characterization of associated risks

      • Visual modeling of Utilities Operations strategy and group development

      • Establishing formal customer experience management and customer relationship management protocols

      • Development of a comprehensive communication plan for the department

  2. Strategic and tactical support for asset management preparation for a Q3 2017 audit:

    • Support the organization in general for linking asset management components into a salient, comprehensive program

    • Identify opportunities to transfer procedural elements into programmatic or policy paradigm

    • Conduct primary and/or secondary research to support key activities

    • Identification and profiling of gaps with a focus on developing related goals

    • Evaluate business intelligence strategy and relationship to asset management


  • 1 previous internship at a biotechnology company

  • Strategic, analytical, proactive, collaborative and strong communication skills


    BA, BS or MBA student with a demonstrated interest/focus in engineering or business. 

    Skills the intern will gain:

    This internship experience will provide valuable perspective into Facilities Operations supporting  production of pipeline products. The intern will develop skills such as business intelligence analysis, risk assessments, customer relationship management, and asset management fundamentals. 

    Work Schedule

    40 hours/week
