Intellectual Property Manager 
  • We are seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Manager to participate in our ongoing success as a profitable, fast-growing, socially responsible company dedicated to Global Health. 
  • As the Intellectual Property Manager, you will lead the intellectual property function, and consolidate company's intellectual property protection strategy, including patents, copyrights, trademarks and other intellectual property. 



Responsibilities  
  • In collaboration with project leaders, scientific personnel and / or outside counsel, consolidate company’s intellectual property strategy for projects with sole property and with joint property rights 
  • With input from internal colleagues and outside counsel, identify and evaluate company's  projects for patentability 
  • With external patent attorneys, determine patent filing strategies and detailed planning based on strategies; monitor the post-filing communications and address issues during active prosecution in the national phase 
  • Interact regularly with development partners regarding joint intellectual property strategy and activities resulting from collaborative product development 
  • Manage information and reporting related to the company’s IP portfolio, including the maintenance of a database documenting filings, deadlines, renewals, competitors’ patents, etc. 
  • Ensure the completion and follow-up of all activities in IP plans 
  • Provide leadership in the selection of external IP counsel and manage their work; serve as the primary contact person with external patent attorneys and manage daily communication with them 
  • Critically examine and approve drafts of patent applications, responses and renewals prepared by external patent attorneys 
  • Participate in drafting / reviewing IP provisions in contractual agreements 
  • Train employees on the securing and the valorization of IP as part of their job responsibilities 
  • Monitor and report on potential infringements of the company’s patents 
  • Regularly monitor the issuance and/or publication of competitor patents and applications worldwide, and provide strategy in response to competitive IP intelligence 
  • Perform intellectual property due diligence as part of investigations of companies and / or technologies in which company is interested 
  • Remain in close contact with project leaders to ensure compliance with the company’s patent strategy 
  • Lead the work of the IP team  
  

Experience / Education  
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in intellectual property in the pharmaceutical or medical device industries; most recent position should include strategic and leadership responsibilities 
  • Strong preference for experience in polymer-based drug delivery systems 
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Biology, or Pharmaceutical Science preferred 
  • CEIPI graduate preferred

  • Strong knowledge of applicable intellectual property law in the US, Europe, China, and Japan 
  • Solid knowledge of pharmaceutical industry practices 
  • Knowledge of intellectual property strategies related to a platform technology 
  • Special knowledge and experience in intellectual property related to drug delivery systems strongly preferred  


Language and Computer:  
  • Complete fluency in speaking, comprehending, reading and writing in English 
  • Significant experience and strong proficiency in writing professional documents in English 
  • Proficiency in patent databases 
  • Proficiency in MS Office, internet use and e-mail communication
