  • We are seeking an experienced Group Leader for our Discovery Services site
  • A key member of the Biology department; this role will provide strong scientific, operational and strategic leadership to multiple teams in the  Biology Department. In particular, to lead target and drug discovery (HTS) projects using primary cells, stem cell and/or 3D cell cultures.



Job Responsibilities
  • Manage, lead, motivate and develop a section of research staff (5 or 6 direct reports including 2 team leaders, ~15-20 total reports) in a fair and even way in accordance with company directions and policies.
  • Help to recruit, motivate and develop talented individuals for a variety of technical roles.
  • Lead efforts to establish cross site consistency and exchange of best practice in complex biology projects.
  • Provide scientific and strategic leadership to the departmental project and team leaders and client project teams on all aspects of cell biology driven projects - look to maintain and improve efficiency and capacity of the teams through automation, communication, outsourcing and innovation.
  • Ensure a high level of scientific standard is maintained on all programs.
  • Maintain a current awareness of drug discovery technologies and approaches relevant for target and drug discovery.
  • Interface directly with clients and internal customers to understand needs and deliverables and define appropriate strategies (scientific and economic) that will deliver revenue and margin goals
  • Work with BD team to maintain client satisfaction and identify and secure new business 
  • Contribute to the management and performance of the Biology department through participation at relevant meetings and taking on selected responsibilities relevant to the role (e.g. data handling for high content work, recruitment of staff, resource planning, etc.)


Requirements:
The following are minimum requirements related to the Group Leader position. 
  • MSc in a relevant discipline
  • Extensive experience in a Team Leader or similar role 
  • Familiarity with a variety of assay technologies and data handling software
  • Demonstrable expertise in designing and running all aspects of primary or stem cell based assays
  • Experience in running target discovery, validation, HTS and/or integrated projects
  • Expertise in utilising cell based assays for drug discovery projects
  • Experience in incorporating stem cell derived cells into phenotypic assays
  • Experience in a range of drug discovery activities through providing strategic leadership to integrated multidisciplinary project teams
  • Ability to discuss and debate data and project strategy with demanding clients and scientific experts
  • Proven track record in business development, 
  • Experience in a range of therapeutic area s
