Project Description

Amgen’s 10 – 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient’s lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.

Relocation in the form of a transportation allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

Human Factors Engineering Department ensures that all combination products and medical devices that are developed under operations are safe and effective for use by the intended users, in the intended use environments. Human Factors Engineering assists with device and packaging design, conducts usability studies to improve and validate the designs with the end users to support regulatory filings with the FDA and other health authorities.

The Human Factors Engineering intern’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Interpreting findings for Human Factors Formative and Summative studies
Participating in core team program activities to help guide Amgen teams regarding usability activities cross-functionally with marketing, device engineering, safety, legal, quality and compliance to ensure adherence to design controls and regulatory requirements
Utilize eye-tracking technology in the pursuit of packaging design, device design
At the end of the term, the intern will have an overall understanding of human-centric requirements used in manufacturing

Basic Qualifications
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a MBA program for a MBA internship OR a Master’s program for a Masters internship OR a PharmD program for a PharmD internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Cognitive Psychology
Currently pursuing a MS in Human Factors, Industrial Design, Cognitive Psychology, Engineering, Life Sciences, or related discipline
Demonstrated time management, decision making, presentation and organization skills
Ability to converse technically with mechanical, electronic, software, clinical, regulatory, and quality engineering disciplines
Experience using sketch models, low and high fidelity prototypes to identify and eliminate potential use errors early in the development process
Experience with technical writing
