The graduate intern is expected to complete the following tasks for a prospective observational study, retrospective study and/or a health economic model under the supervision of hiring manager and working supervisors:
[For prospective study] Working with the GHE team, and external vendor to develop analysis plan, provide analytical input and complete an analysis of study results for dissemination internally, use in regulatory inputs, and external publications.
[For retrospective study] Working with the GHE team, and vendor to, design the study and specific objectives, develop the protocol and accompanying documents, and generate preliminary results
[For modeling study] Working with the GHE team and key opinion leaders to conceptualize the model, creating a preliminary framework of the model in Excel or TreeAge, conducting literature review to identify parameter values, and using the preliminary model to perform feasibility analyses
Presenting accomplishments during the internship to the GHE Department
The intern will get the opportunity to improve skills in observational studies and health economics modeling through project experience. The intern will also learn the cultural environment of Amgen through interacting with colleagues from GHE and CfOR.
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
18 years or older
Graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a MBA program for a MBA internship OR a Master’s program for a Masters internship OR a PharmD program for a PharmD internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university
Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Currently in the process of obtaining an MS or PhD in economics, pharmacy, pharmacoeconomics, health policy, health economics, health services or health outcomes research
Experience in retrospective health care database analysis,
Intermediate experience with analytical software including SAS and/or SPSS
Experience in health economic modeling using Excel or TreeAge
Experience in prospective observational studies
