The Opportunity:

The Global Release Manager will work within the IT Operations team responsible for ensuring an effective release management process exists for releasing software changes (initially focusing on SAP) to the production environment.  He/she will maintain and improve the existing process for migrating changes through multiple environments into live Production and ensure compliance and solution integrity is maintained.  He/she will also facilitate IT Quality and Process controls where necessary. 

 

The Responsibilities:

Although not directly responsible for managing the process to ensure release activities in the non-prod space, (I.e. Dev, Test), this person must be fully engaged in those activities for awareness, assist in organizing and prioritizing efforts for timely release to production and escalate to management issues that potential impact the release of those efforts to production. He/she is ultimately responsible for ensuring the successful execution of release build activities.

 

In addition, the position will work closely with: 

IT Change Management to identify and implement synergies between IT Change & Release Management relating to process.  Ensuring a common set of standards, guidelines and principals exist (where possible) across both Change & Release Management.   

Assisting in facilitating planned outages (weekend maintenance) and unplanned outages with the business, end-users and support teams

Partnering with the CoE ERP Manager in managing the Change Control Board effort (chair meeting, minutes, etc.) associated with releases being requested and or approval for new work/projects requiring eventual releases   

 

The Global Release Manager is accountable for end to end ownership of the Release Management process in Production.  He/she will drive the implementation of effective and efficient processes on how releases are managed from initial conception to production release.  He/she will also manage the process as a service, providing end-user support/training, maintaining formalize documents (SOP, Policy), establishing key metrics to measure effectiveness, etc.

 

From a project management perspective, he/she will work as an integration point for the business and IT for several on-going activities.

The Individual:

  • Bachelor's Degree or above in Computer Science, Business, Accounting, or other related area or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in establishing/governing and improving release management processes
  • Experience with ERP implementation as integration/cutover Lead
  • Experience with multiple full life cycle of SAP implementations as release manager for Production Support / Implementation activities
  • Experienced in planning of the activities for various phases of SAP implementations
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of SAP Basis tasks/activity is a plus.
  • Ability to develop processes and procedures for effective execution
  • Ability to drive critical/unplanned tasks to closure with clear focus
  • Ability to articulate clearly with senior leadership team
  • Ability to identify the Risks and work proactively to mitigate them
  • Ability to work as part of a team & as individual contributor
  • Visionary to identify improvement opportunities across the landscape and successfully implement
  • Excellence in interacting with business and IT teams in the US, Europe and Asia.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English, Spanish or German a plus.
  • International IT project management experience is a strong plus.

 As this is a global position, role requires coordination of releases across regions requiring off-hours work; work on select weekends to support / coordinate maintenance on systems where application support and or business ‘check-outs’ are required.
