Project Description

  • We are seeking a Formulation Assessment – Team Leader  to participate in our ongoing success as a profitable, fast-growing, socially responsible company dedicated to Global Health. 
  • In this role, you will lead a multicultural team whose main responsibility is to assess future development projects.   

Primary Responsibilities   
  • Develop operational plans to assess formulation feasibility based on strategic decisions for the company, including:  
    • realistic timelines 
    • budget and resource planning 
    • risk assessment 
    • contingency planning   
  • Be directly accountable for managing timeline and delivery of the assessment unit activities and set priorities for the team 
  • Manage and supervise formulation evaluation of company technology with potential compatible APIs 
  • Work on investigation methods to ensure compatibility and stability of final products  
  • Consult scientific literature to resolve potential issues 
  • Identify bottlenecks, surface issues, and proactively strive for their resolution 
  • Trouble-shoot formulation development, process variability and scale-up related process issues in order to secure future development projects 
  • Ensure smooth transfer of studies, protocols, documentation, etc. to the development projects teams to increase the success of those projects  

Secondary responsibilities 
  • Design laboratory studies, protocols, and evaluations with team members as necessary to support all aspects of pharmaceutical development 
  • Prepare and lead regular updates and planning meetings with internal and external teams 
  • Regularly review program data with team and alliance partners 
  • Write reports in English for internal, vendor, partner and/or regulatory use 
  • Oversee activities at CROs for in vivo studies 
  • Ensure that all data generated by the formulation assessment team are accurate, up to date, and accessible for people involved internally 
  • Oversee the team, ensure appropriate training, monitor performance, and provide coaching / skill development opportunities  

Experience / Education
  • PhD in pharmacology/chemistry or Master degree with a relevant experience 
  • At least 10+ years in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry with extensive experience in pharmaceutical formulation, drug delivery and polymer science preferred 
  • Experience in managing a team or mentoring others in (c)GMP/GLP laboratories with working knowledge of safety, laboratory inspection readiness, staff training, data integrity. 
  • Experience in international and multidisciplinary teams  

Scientific / Technical  
  • Good understanding of Quality by Design (QbD) 
  • Sound knowledge of the pharmaceutical product development process 
  • Strong scientific track record based on publications and patents record 
  • PMI certification preferred 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to persuade others 
  • Ability to think out of the box with a problem-solving attitude  

Language and Computer 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English 
  • Ability to write and edit scientific reports in English 
  • Proficiency in project management software 
  • Proficiency in MS Office, internet and email
