Automation & Control Engineering (ACE) is part of the Engineering Tech Center (ETC). ACE provides automation solutions thru measurements, control, control systems, data and integration, and project delivery. ACE is a technical resource for training, standards, and Lilly’s standard automation platforms. ACE’s primary customers are global manufacturing, development sites, manufacturing IT, Global Quality, and Global Facilities Delivery (GFD).
This role provides broad design expertise and project engineering through an extensive network across the automation discipline. Influences throughout the organization. Successfully directs programs involving multiple groups, projects, or locations. Mentors other engineers in automation engineering capability and career development.
This specific role requires expertise in the knowledge of automation engineering and project delivery with an emphasis on two key areas; 1) Supporting project conceptual stages and profiling. 2) Leading automation design on capital projects and effectively organizing and managing project teams. In addition this will role will work to optimizes and improve project automation engineering approaches by combining technical expertise, best practices, engineering standards, and project delivery expertise.
Safety – Work safely and continually look for improvements in personnel and equipment safety, ensure safe design and operation of new equipment, ensure automation design reflects safety concerns for operations and maintenance.
Automation/Control Discipline and Technical Leadership – Partner with colleagues to lead the discipline through solution assessment, replication, and development. Manage tools, engineering standards, master specifications and best practices. Provide technical coaching and consultation to other Lilly engineers, facilitate shared learning forums.
Automation Design – Provide support to manufacturing sites and Global Facilities Delivery (GFD)during project profiling and design. Ensure project design meets intended requirements, considers life cycle cost, and eliminates non-value add complexity. Use replication and best practices to optimize project cost.
Project Engineering – Lead automation design and delivery of Global and GFD projects. Provide appropriate levels of project execution support. Support the Design Delivery Gate Review process. Partner with GFD and outsource partners to ensure a successful Automation Project Management structure is put in place to successfully deliver the project.
External Influence and Benchmarking - Monitor and influence, when appropriate, changes in external codes and standards on Lilly’s behalf, and work to ensure ongoing compliance within Lilly. Extract benchmarking information from academia and industry.
BS in Engineering or related science degree
Minimum of 3+ years experience in automation machine control, process control
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
Demonstrated ability to work safely
Demonstrated expertise in one or more automation platforms
Experience on Rockwell and/or Emerson DeltaV platforms.
Significant experience and strong problem solving skills in measurements, control (process and/or manufacturing), control systems, integration and data.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Ability to manage people and projects to deliver a common set of objectives
Ability to coordinate Automation and Process Control design across different cultures and countries.
PE, PMP, and/or CAP desired, but not required.
Knowledge of GMP’s and pharmaceutical manufacturing
Knowledge in machine vision systems
Knowledge in machine control, motion platforms, packaging and/or device assembly
8 hour days - Monday through Friday, overtime and some weekend/holiday may be required for project support.
Location: Indianapolis LTC-N, or at project location as needed
