Responsibilities

BASIC SUMMARY:

Develop and implement internal communication strategies and plans that engage align and inspire employees with Charles River’s vision and business strategy.  Partner with business leaders to deliver programs that optimize work experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and propose new, interactive ways to drive engagement and encourage innovation consistent with the Company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Work with partners globally across the businesses to communicate and embed Charles River purpose and values.
  • Create an integrate narrative and roadmap that clearly communicates the link between business, culture and our people strategies.
  • Build communications and engagement strategies for critical communications and key strategic employee engagement initiatives.
  • Develop and execute communications strategies and lead communications planning and execution for key corporate projects or programs. Ensures project–strategy alignment with overall corporate communications strategy.
  • Counsel/advise colleagues on matters of corporate editorial style standards and communication approaches.
  • Possess journalist-quality writing skills to rapidly and effectively create, company-wide emails, feature articles, executive talking points, blog posts and briefing documents.
  • Works closely with business partners, external vendors, and HR to develop and execute communications that help drive improvements in employee engagement.
  • Measure and own improvements in employee engagement with regard to internal communications.
  • Be an inspiration for employees by creating communications that inspire and engage
  • Develop and implement communication strategies, programs and tools that inform, engage and motivate employees.
  • Work with partners globally across the businesses to communicate and embed Charles River purpose and values.
  • Manage activities of assigned group(s) to ensure optimum performance of the group/function.
  • Responsible for personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.), training and development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews.
  • Assist in the development of short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans.
  • Assist in the development and recommendation of departmental budget and authorize expenditures.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of departmental training programs, including orientation.
  • Support the policy of equal employment opportunity through affirmative action in personnel actions.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in marketing, communications, human resources or related discipline.
  • Experience:  Minimum of  5-7 years related experience in employee communications for a multi-site organization.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure: None
  • Other: Strong writing background and proven C-level writing and editing skills. Portfolio of examples that demonstrate breadth of experience and understanding of various communications mediums, ability to produce clear, compelling, motivating copy.  Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects with a sense of urgency and effective organizational skills.  Strong attention to detail, solid organizational and project management skills. Experienced in communications planning and execution; thinks strategically and executes tactically in order to deliver positive results for the business.  A high degree of energy and initiative and the ability to drive results across different functions and teams, including outside agencies and consultants.  Demonstrated resiliency; able to explore different paths to achieve an outcome. Takes initiative to bring forward new ideas to improve processes and programs.  Seasoned, polished professionalism with good judgment and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage communications involving confidential and sensitive topics.
