Through access to care,partnerships with the community and expansion of our capabilities, we want tohelp as many people with cancer as possible.TheDirector, Patient Access, Oncology is responsible for the successful and timelylisting of Merck Oncology medicines by provincial payers, and for engaging withpublic policy stakeholders to create an environment that facilitates patientaccess to innovative cancer medicines. The Director, Patient Access leads ateam of 5 field-based access managers, 1 field-based policy manager, and 5office-based planners, health economics and outcomes research managers, andadministrative support.Theposition reports to the Business Unit Head, Oncology  Canada with a dottedline to the Head of Market Access, Oncology  EMEAC.Theposition is currently based in the Kirkland Head office, though there isflexibility for other locations depending upon the candidate s experience andwillingness to travel. Job-related travel is 20-40% and can get intense beforeand during price negotiations.Primary Responsibilities- Oversees the development and implementation of marketaccess strategies in Oncology.- Creates a long-term access strategy for futureindications of KEYTRUDA that ensures timely and broad patient access, in amanner that is sustainable for payers and Merck.- Leads a team of office- and field-based functionalaccess experts (planning, health economics and outcomes research, publicpolicy, stakeholder relations).- Develops and leads market access negotiations withpublic payer agencies such as pCODR and pCPA.- Drives integrated cross-functional collaboration withMedical Affairs, Marketing, Sales, Key Account Management, Pricing, and otherinternal partners.- Contributes actively to Oncology Leadership Teammeetings and to setting the long-term strategy of the Oncology Business Unit.QualificationsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LANGUAGE- University degree in Business, Economics, Medicine, Pharmacyor Life sciences, and/or graduate degree in Business or Life sciences arepreferred.- 10-15 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceuticalindustry, with 3-5 years  experience in Market Access.- Strong knowledge of Oncology is preferred; strongknowledge of another specialty-care field is an asset.- High level of understanding of Canadian pharmaceuticalpricing and reimbursement, payer needs and market access environment isrequired.- Hands-on experience in complex negotiations isrequired. Proven negotiation experience withpublic payer agencies such as pCODR and pCPA in preferred.- Understanding of health economic principles and budgetingprocesses is an asset.- Language requirement:Business fluency in spoken and written English is required; businessfluency in spoken and written French is a strong asset.COMPETENCIES- Highly developed strategic planning skills- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills- Strong leadership skills and ability to set a cleardirection, manage multifunctional extended teams and network effectively- Ability to provide innovative solutions to complexproblems and challenge the status quo- Proven ability to develop brand strategies (marketingor access)- Ability to multi-task  demonstrated ability to beresponsive to simultaneous demands from internal and external customers: (i.e.payers, marketing, key account managers)- Solid facilitator coupled with strongnegotiation/analytical and project management skills- Ability to build credible relationships with broadrange of stakeholders- Demonstrates flexibility when working withglobal/local cross-functional teams; integrates ideas and collaborates withothers- Excellent written and verbal communication skillsOur employees are the key to our company's success.
