|Job Description||We are looking for an Associate Director/Director to lead an Assay Development and Screening Technologies group in Biogen’s Biotherapeutics and Medicinal Sciences (BTMS) Department, supporting cross-functional teams engaged in target validation, lead identification/optimization, and clinical candidate identification for neurodegeneration and additional applications.|
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Lead target-based enzymology and cell-based assay development and implementation.
o Lead phenotypic screening of cell lines and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPS) by using complex image based assays and associated robotic equipment.
o Create assay development and qualification workflows for both HTS and medium throughput compound screening campaigns.
o Develop an internal vs external screening strategy and establish strong working relationships with key CROs for both HTS and routine compound screening
o Develop and implement a strategy for big-data analysis and interpretation.

|Qualifications||o Experience with high- throughput screening of neuronal and iPS cells is desirable.|
o Strong technical expertise and quantitative skills in biochemical and cell-based assay development and screening to enable small molecule/target discovery, lead identification, and optimization.
o Demonstrated leadership capabilities to develop a high performing team and drive change including a record of hiring, training, mentoring and managing of groups of scientist and managers of scientists.
STRONG COLLABORATIVE SKILLS IN WORKING WITH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY GROUPS:
o Collaborate with Medicinal Chemistry and Research IT to establish and strengthen relevant data workflows ranging from compound registration to LIMS for HTS and routine assay data generation and analysis.
o Establish collaborative interfaces with Therapeutic areas to execute on projects and ensure an alignment of priorities
o Effective communicator of ideas, project goals and results to team members across cross-functional roles/departments.
|Education||o PhD in cell, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or neurobiology with minimum of 10 years industry experience.|
