The Lilly Diabetes and Complications Research organization has created a research team focused on discovery and preclinical development of new therapeutics in the areas of Incretin Discovery. The Incretin Discovery team is looking for an experienced in vivo pharmacologist with proven record of accomplishment in drug discovery and development. The candidate will have an in depth understanding and experience in the development, validation and implementation of in vivo assays with which to develop new therapeutics. He/she will have skills to coordinate rodent studies in a team environment to support both small and large molecule projects. Primary responsibilities will include performing proof-of-concept studies, in vivo assay development and optimization, and execution of studies (both internal and with external partners). The candidate is expected to work in collaboration with the Incretin and Insulin Discovery groups in a team-oriented environment and to support other groups in the Diabetes and Complications Therapeutic Area with expertise as needed.
Perform acute and chronic in vivo studies (glucose and insulin tolerance tests, etc.) including animal handling, blood and biopsy collection, measurement of body weight and food intake as well as test article formulation and administration by oral gavage and subcutaneous, intravenous, and intramuscular injection.
Assessment of meal patterning, body composition analysis, respiratory quotient and other parameters of body weight regulation
Perform small animal surgical procedures including, but not limited to, rodent catheter and mini pump implantation.
Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. Will perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies, and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.
Bachelor's Degree in biology or a closely related field with laboratory research experience

Expertise in handling small laboratory animals
Familiar with setting up and running biochemical assays (protein, glycogen, enzyme assays, etc.), running ex vivo primary tissue assays and with aspects of protein analysis (SDS-PAGE gels and western blotting).
Experience and willingness to work with radioisotopes, chemical, and biological hazards.
Proven ability to work in flexible, team-oriented environment.
Experience in diabetes and/or metabolic diseases is preferred.
Oral/written communication/listening skills in English are essential.
Strong relationship-building and interaction skills with peers and management.
Master's degree in Biology or related field
Flexible scheduling is a requirement. The position is full-time (40 hrs/wk), but not all regularly scheduled work hours will occur Mon-Fri from 8 AM-4:45 PM. There is a requirement to work after-hours or on weekends on occasion.
The position level will be commensurate with the candidate s experience. The position is governed by regulations including OSHA, AAALAC, OLAW and NRC compliance to all applicable regulations is mandatory.
