Project Description

BioMarin is the world leader in delivering therapeutics that provide meaningful advances to patients who live with serious and life-threatening rare genetic diseases. We target diseases that lack effective therapies and affect relatively small numbers of patients, many of whom are children. These conditions are often inherited, difficult to diagnose, progressively debilitating and have few, if any, treatment options. BioMarin will continue to focus on advancing therapies that are the first or best of their kind.

The Associate position is an entry level position focused on supporting CCG team efforts in the development of site budgets, amending site budgets and coordinating Clinical Trial Agreement activities with sites and CROs.   The Associate will work with budget templates, gather budget related data to support negotiations and work with sites and CROs to answer budget related queries.

An Associate may also support the development and implementation key functional projects focused on improving effectiveness or efficiency of operations

The Associate will support CCG team efforts in the following activities, including:

Budget Development

  • Developing study budget template and obtaining study team approval
  • Using benchmark pricing database (Grants Manager), historical price data to determine budget line item costs
  • Calculating acceptable negotiation parameters for all key budget line items (high, mid, low) that are in line with and support overall Bio Marin financial goals

Budget Negotiation

  • Providing rationale for budget line items and promptly respond to any site or CRO queries regarding budget items
  • Tracking communication and status of all site budget development, budget amendments and budget negotiations

Ongoing Budget maintenance

  • Build relationships with Study Teams, CRO, and sites in order to maintain awareness of any changes that may impact budgets or site and/or vendor contracting
  • Attend study team meetings/CRO calls to gather information that may impact budget development and management
  • Update site budgets based on protocol amendments

Clinical Trial Agreements

Assist in the maintenance of BioMarin’s contract database

Support CCG and BizOps process, SOP, and work instruction development and improvement projects

An Associate is expected to demonstrate foundational communication, planning and prioritization, teamwork and proactivity competencies. This includes:

  • clear and concise oral and written communication
  • an ability to maintain effective working relationships with others
  • perseverance, energy and determination in task execution

An Associate should be developing competence in key technical competencies such as Site Budget and Contract Management and BioMarin Processes and Technology, including:   

  • the ability to effectively use key productivity tools such as excel and quickly grasping and following Clinical Contracts and Grants processes
  • understanding the structure and basic legal terms of CTAs
  • demonstrating basic understanding of how investigator site services/procedures drive CTA financial budgets
  • understanding site budget formats, templates and required content

a demonstrated ability to understand and apply basic finance, accounting and procurement principles
