The department

  • AH-GSM manages approximately $1.2B of third party spend through an organizational structure encompassing the global leverage of center-led categories and regional operating resources.

The position
  • The Associate Director of Merck Manufacturing Division (MMD) Indirect Procurement is responsible for the global or regional sourcing strategy, across the indirect categories of spend, at all global Animal Health MMD sites. The categories of activity include but are not limited to Integrated Facility Management, MRO, and Energy.
  • The Associate Director will take an active role in the development of procurement strategy, Global Category Management, contract management, risk management, stakeholder management, and supplier value management within these categories.
  •  The Associate Director will develop and maintain strong relationships with Plant Managers, heads of operations, and site finance leaders.  
  • The Associate Director has the responsibility to assess the existing sourcing posture of site services across the manufacturing network and collaborate with site procurement organizations and stakeholders to complete a divisional Indirect services opportunity analysis. 
  • The Associate Director will then work with his/her team, site procurement organizations, and stakeholders to implement regional/global sourcing strategies based on agreed prioritization.  The role reports to the Director of Small Molecule Procurement in AH-Global Supplier Management.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:
  • Leadership - As a key leader of MMD Indirect categories of spend, responsible to develop and then implement sourcing strategy and ensure alignment, compliance and delivery of required business performance.
  • Procurement Leadership - Provide the leadership, strategy and policy for the category building a high performance engagement model with the business and regions.
  • Organizational Development - Support the building of a Center of Expertise in MMD Indirect who have direct responsibility for sourcing and projects.
  • Process - Realize sourcing management, supplier value management, risk management, supplier diversity as core sustainable processes and enablers of delivery.
  • Performance - Deliver ongoing savings as required, as well as meeting the stakeholder business requirements.
  • Relationships - Build outstanding relationships with stakeholders which are oriented to
  • meeting their business needs.
  • Change Management - Adopt high quality change practices with customers and stakeholders, building and implementing an organization which is sustainable.
  • Diversity - Actively support diversity, both within Merck as well as expanding relationships and spend with Diverse Suppliers.
  • Supplier Value Management - Implement Supplier Value Management with the key suppliers in this category to foster innovation, manage supplier performance, establish a Governance Model, and ensure continuous improvement.

Desired skills & experience
  • At 5-7 years procurement or business management specific experience.
  • Technical - A strong background and knowledge of manufacturing site operations is required.
  • At minimum the candidate has a Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree is preferred.
