At Merck’s Manufacturing Facility in Elkton, Virginia we currently have an Associate Director of Operations in Biologics position available. The Associate Director of Operations (Business Lead) is responsible for ensuring product is manufactured in accordance with established procedures while adhering to all domestic and international quality, safety, and environmental guidelines. This individual will utilize a high degree of independent judgment and decision-making to direct production or support operations personnel to meet customer supply requirements and control cost in assigned area.
The individual will manage area within Company policies and within the framework of the local bargaining unit agreement and the responsibility for guiding/supporting talent management activities for direct reports and support personnel. Provides direction to ancillary manufacturing operations and oversees resource allocation, including shift operations. Participates in and develops proposals and oversees projects for process and facility improvements or efficiency initiatives. Associate Director of Operations will be expected to participate and contribute to site wide compliance initiatives for Safety and/or cGMP.
Education Minimum Requirement:
•B.S. in Business, Science or Engineering with minimum of six years of manufacturing experience
Required Experience and Skills:
•Work experience in cGMP (monoclonal antibodies, biological, sterile, vaccine, pharmaceutical environment).
•Supervisory experience (salaried and/or Union direct reports)
Preferred Experience and Skills:
•Experience in new manufacturing facility design / construction / start-up
•Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to coach, influence and support others through a culture of inclusion, feedback and empowerment
•Experience from other manufacturing industries and disciplines
•Excellent communication and organizational skills
•Flexibility to perform various tasks to support the business.
•Lean Manufacturing and MPS (Merck Production System), Six Sigma, KATA problem solving skills
•Ability to prioritize, align and simply to focus on and obtain business results
•Previous experience training individuals in complex manufacturing / work environments
•Delta V and SAP experience is a plus
•Meeting Facilitation/Training/Presentation Skills
•Planning, Implementing, Directing, Control, Decision Making
•Provide feedback and perform DCOM interviews
