The BioMarin Accounting department based in San Rafael, California supports the corporate and US financial and tax accounting and reporting activities of our publicly traded company. The BioMarin Accounting Department 2017 intern will participate in the monthly accounting close cycle and have the opportunity to participate in multiple accounting and tax related projects over the summer internship period. The projects are focused on the transformation of operational policies, processes and computer systems leveraged to deliver financial accounting results for the company. The intern will participate as a project team member to understand the business purpose and financial impacts of the projects undertaken by the Accounting department. As a member of the project teams, the intern will be assigned elements of the project to execute as part of the overall project effort. The intern will participate in the monthly close cycle as a member of the Corporate Accounting team, which responsible for global accounting close standard setting, close process coordination and consolidation of global financial results.
The BioMarin internship program starts on June 5th and ends on September 1st; although, individual start and end dates may vary slightly within this date range. The Accounting Department Intern will participate as a member of the companywide internship program, including attendance at weekly Lunch and Learn seminars and presentation of summer accomplishments and learnings to an Executive panel at the end of the internship.
The Accounting Intern will participate as a member of project teams working to transform current accounting processes and computer systems. This will be a hands on role, with elements of the project deliverable prepared by the Intern under the guidance of Accounting Department mentors. The expectation is that the Intern will have the opportunity to participate in multiple projects, which will provide exposure to various Accounting areas, such as general ledger, operational accounting and tax.
Undergraduate or graduate level business students returning to school in the fall of 2017. At a minimum, completion of university level introductory accounting or tax coursework required.
Experience using Microsoft Office products, such as Word and Excel, required.
The successful candidate is detail focused and strong team player, with a curiosity about how accounting processes and systems are leveraged to achieve financial and tax accounting results.
Undergraduate and gradual level business students returning to school in the fall of 2017 are eligible for this position. Students must have completed of their freshman year of school as of the internship commencement date.
