So my name is Toon Van Rompay and I got a masters degree in Modern History. But so far I have never had a job where that degree is explicitely needed. But then again, I did not start to study Modern History with a certain job in my mind. With my past working experiences, I learned that I want to work with people. As an officer in the army and as well as a teachter, I learned that my first priority is always the well being of the people under my responsibility. But I do not thrive in sectors where rules must be followed as strictly as possible and there is no room for personal initiative or ideas. This is why I left the army and stopped being a teacher. Now I am looking for a job as a trainer or HR consultent in a private company after the advice of a job-coach. She made me realise why the army or a school would never be place where I was going to be happy. And that a job in the private sector where I can work with people in a close environment would be ideal for me.
