Supporting the design and synthesis of biologically-active small molecules as development candidate for the drug discovery programs; designing, executing and validating suitable synthetic routes for chemistry scaffolds; preparing reports and experimental write-ups to support patent filing; presenting data internally and externally when necessary; collaborating with the interdisciplinary teams including biology, DMPK, analytical chemistry and process chemistry; maintaining a detailed scientific notebook, analytical data and other scientific information; maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment; taking personal responsibility for individual and co-worker safety and strictly adhering to all safety procedures and policies; maintaining a high level of knowledge in synthetic organic methodology and reaction mechanisms through familiarity with scientific literature and share information with colleagues in synthetic chemistry.

Carrying out required NMR studies to support the ongoing projects; performing MS analysis to further support ongoing project in addition to or independently of NMR analysis; ensure data is analysed and uploaded to the repository as soon as it has been reviewed; ensureing that all experimental work and reports are written in a timely fashion; investigateing the application for NMR to determine the solution conformers of small molecules in support of medicinal chemistry design on oncology projects; evaluation of new NMR software for conformation determinations.

Performing assay optimisation, development and high-throughput screening to support the drug discovery process; operating and troubleshooting appropriate automation systems/readers/dispensers and HTS required software; identifying and performing experimental work to address opportunities or problems; ensure all risk assessments are in place ahead of any lab work; analysing data in accordance with HTS best practice; creating protocols and electronic write-ups in a timely fashion; collaborate with project leaders & project teams.

Performing synthetic organic chemistry reactions based on known procedures, performing extractive work-up and silica chromatography purification to yield compounds of publication-quality purity, analytical characterization of compounds by LC, MS, NMR, HPLC, maintaining a laboratory notebook with detailed experimental data, presenting the results of the research.

Vacation Scholarship for Medical Research Scotland. Project title: Can inhibition of mitochondrial citrate synthase be used in prevention of obesity? Duties: working in a lab with genetically modified bacteria, using techniques such as electrophoresis, western blot, protein purification, presenting the project at Researcher Showcase 2012 in Edinburgh.
