    Erkki Raulo coordinates the Integrative Life Science (ILS) doctoral program in the University of Helsinki. Erkki has long experience in a wide array of aspects in higher education management ranging from student councelling to setting up international collaborations.

    Erkki Raulo is representing the Academy of Finland in the ERA-Net NEURON since January 2007. Ministries and funding agencies from 18 countries across Europe, Israel and Canada have joined forces in the ERA-Net to conquer diseases of the brain and the nervous system. They support basic, clinical and translational research in the diverse fields of disease-related neuroscience. Erkki Raulo leads in the ERA-Net a work package that deals with the support of investigators in their early career stages. He initiated, developed and is in charge of several related measures, the most prominent being the Excellent Paper in Neuroscience Award. Erkki Raulo is an experienced program manager with profound knowledge in matters related to education and early career researcher training and support. He interacts in the international setting extremely well both professionally and socially and is therefore highly respected among his colleagues. This allowed him to build important networks in the research community and science management alike. Due to these skills Erkki Raulo greatly contributes to the success of the ERA-Net NEURON.

    Erkki Raulo was the coordinator of the Graduate Program in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology (GPBM), which was the spearhead doctoral program in Finland until the recent restructuring of doctoral training in Finland. Erkki was instrumental in the success of the program, which revitalized doctoral training at the University of Helsinki leading to e.g. structured thesis committees, structured curricula based on regular basic courses and a variety of internal and external supporting training, and international cooperation at all levels.
