Summary

I work as a Research Scientist at the University of Helsinki working on my thesis, which should be finished by the fall of 2018. Ph.D. thesis: The effect of the environment (i.e. Bovine insulin in milk formula and the gut microbiome and virome) on the study of immune responses and of regulatory Tcells. 

I previously worked as a Research Scientist and a vice Quality Control Coordinator at the Immune response unit at the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).

I am skilled at laboratory work, managing project schedules, writing of scientific publications, analyzing data, and representing the results to specialists in Finland and abroad.

My responsibilities have included the assisting in the maintenance of laboratory quality according to the SFS-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard at THL. Also collaboration with several hospital districts in Finland for sample coordination. Laboratory work (flow cytometry and cell culture), giving presentations, scientific writing.

Current Experience

  • Research Scientist, M.Sc. PhD student in a EU supervised project.
    Since June 2015

    Current project: the aim is to assess the role of the hygiene hypothesis in the development of immune-mediated diseases, type 1 diabetes in particular, and to define the mechanisms behind the potential protective effect conferred by microbial agents. Previous project: the aim is to assess the role of different baby milk formulas or breast milk in the development of type 1 diabetes, and to define the immunological effects of bovine insulin to the immune mediated responses.

    My responsibilities included planning of and executing laboratory work as well as giving directions to the technical staff. I also managed my own projects. The work also included writing of scientific publications, analyzing data, and representing the results to specialists in Finland and abroad. My responsibilities have included the assisting in the maintenance of laboratory quality according to the SFS-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
