During this period I worked on my doctoral thesis entitled: Intelligent wearable cueing and feedback for gait in Parkinson's disease. In this project I investigated the direct effects of auditory cueing (i.e. metronome rhythm) and verbal feedback (i.e. corrective and positive auditory messages) on gait in people with Parkinson's disease. Innovatively, the patient's gait performance was in real-time evaluated by means of a smartphone app, which, based on the measured performance, started the cueing and feedback automatically. The system was evaluated to support long walks of 30 minutes in the home context with remote supervision by a physiotherapist.
The system was well appreciated by the participants and found to be as effective as the current standard of gait rehabilitation for Parkinson patients. Additionally, differences in response to intelligent auditory cueing and intelligent verbal feedback have been found between clinical subgroups of people with Parkinson's disease.
The project has attracted positive interest from international researchers which consider it a first innovation step to implement mobile solutions in the field of rehabilitation.

Working on the "Closed-loop system for personalized and at-home rehabilitation of people with Parkinson's Disease" (CuPiD). A project funded by the European Commission to develop technical device(s) that assist Parkinson patients with their physical training in their own home. Backup tester on other Parkinson rehabilitation research projects at the KU Leuven. Assist in weekly training session of Parkinson patients with a severe risk of falling (fit&actief).
