I graduated in September 2014 from Ghent University with a master’s degree in Bioscience engineering, specialized in cell and gene biotechnology. Through my education I possess a broad scientific knowledge. Due to my interest in the pharmaceutical sector, I deepened her knowledge of the development of pharmaceuticals. As an engineer, I master analytical and technical skills. I am broadly applicable and make connections between different areas or applications easily. I highly value quality in work and documentation. Due to numerous assignments, team work and projects, I acquired the skill to work well individually and in team. Besides this, I got used to working under pressure and with deadlines. I was selected for the Q-Kickstarter program of Ordina Belgium: an intensive program whereby young high potentials are being prepared for Quality & Compliance projects at our pharmaceutical customer.This program included training in areas of validation, testing and consultancy skills.

    The Q Academy program is aimed at giving young graduates and professionals the opportunity to “kickstart” their career with an in depth training program covering different areas of quality and validation. The 5 week training course covers following areas: • Introduction to quality, guidelines and regulations (ICH, GxP, GAMP, …) • Computers System Validation(GAMP 5 based), 21 CFR Part 11 and quality by integrity • Lab equipment qualification & method validation • Equipment Qualification • Process Validation • Sterilisation Validation • Cleaning Validation • Product Validation • Styatistics in Quality • Introduction to mobile app validation • Introduction to medical devices • SQL • ISTQB • SCRUM Through these interactive training sessions, I got acknowledged with professional jargon and important concepts that are necessary to be a successful Quality & Compliance engineer.

Past Experience

  • PhD student
    October 2014 --- January 2015
    The aim of this project was the characterisation and use of nanobodies targeting a specific isoform of a protein. This causes specific loss of function of only this isoform and could eventually be used as treatment for certain cancer types. My responsabilities included: - Reading into the subject - Give clear presentations to groups with different backgrouonds - Defending the project for a mock jury and the final jury - Check preliminary results, repeat and refine experiments - Think out, plan and conduct relevant experiments - Study relevant literature - Get familiar with different equipment and their working mechanism

  • Master Thesis Student
    September 2013 --- June 2014
    Analysis of L-plastin function in cancer cell invadopodia with the use of single-chain antibodies (nanobodies). The aim of this master's thesis was to localise L-plastin in cancer cells, charachterise the used nanobodies and conduct functional experiments concering the effect of the nanobodies on the invadopodia, migration and invasion of the cells. My tasks included: - Conducting experiments in the lab - Operate different microscopes - Consult with the responsible PhD student and promotor - Provide intermediate presentations and a final one - Data analysis with MS Excel, ImageJ and SPSS - Writing down all results with a founded discussion and conclusion The result is confidential. Subsequently, I gave an understandable presentation to a jury and defended my work successfully.

  • Bacherlor thesis: The cloning of genes for the silicate housekeeping in Pinnularia sp.
    February 2012 --- June 2012
    The aim of this thesis was to identify the genes of Pinnularia sp. responsible for its silicate shields. Thereby comparison between different techniques to break the shields and isolate the genetic material was conducted. This thesis was conducted in team. The tasks included: - Research previously published literature - Design an experimental setup - Foundedly choose the targetgenes and primers - Think out and adapt different techniques to break the shields - Planning and conducting repetitive tests - Writing down the results and the thesis - Presenting the results and defend the work All the tested genes were not present in Pinnularia sp, and the best way to break the shields while maintaining the genomic material was an adapted version of the BeadBeater. The team functioned in a cooperative way in which everybody's input was equally important.
