Current Experience

  • Scientist/Postdoctoral Research Fellow
    Since December 2014

    1. Rapid viral diagnostics project - Biosensor “lab-on-a-chip” development with multidisciplinary engineering/virologist team: o Development of rapid, ultra-sensitive and cost-effective viral diagnostic platform o One of several primary scientists involved in proof of concept experimental design o Chip prototype finalized - low limit of detection (LOD) suitable for further development for clinical point-of-care (POC) viral diagnostics, and expansion into cancer diagnostics 
    2. Biomarker profiling in ZIKA infection – immunomodulation and early identification of ZIKA virus biomarkers in a humanized mouse model o One of two lead senior scientists in this project, responsible for project design from an initial idea; in charge of data acquisition, analysis and interpretation o Multicolor flow cytometry applied for the discovery and characterization of potential T cell dysfunction biomarkers in ZIKA infection
    3. Discovery of new preventative topical agents against HIV mucosal transmission o In charge of experimental design & driving the project forward in a humanized mouse model of HIV mucosal transmission – first ever testing of a naturally occurring antiviral HIV agent
    4. Testing new preventative approaches against drug resistant HIV strains in women - combinatorial drug topical gel tested against currently circulating HIV mutants o Primary scientist responsible for experimental design in a humanized mouse model, data completion and analysis, junior personnel management and training
    5. Testing pharmacological agents against ZIKA virus o Contributed in project design, execution and manuscript generation of Sofosbuvir, an FDA-approved drug, repurposed for ZIKA virus therapy in mice and multiple cell culture systems
    6. Designing new tools for ZIKA virus research – infectious clone project o Collaborated with CDC to develop and characterize novel infectious clone system o Responsible for characterizing growth kinetics - qRT-PCR and immunofluorescence microscopy
