Past Experience

  • Postdoctoral Researcher
    January 2015 --- July 2016
    My research focused on the elucidation of molecular mechanisms of cardiac glucose uptake inhibition by fatty acid. I seek the involvement of acetylation process in impaired GLUT4 translocation and diminished glucose uptake as a results of fatty acid oxidations in the heart. I established a technique to separate plasma membrane fractions from endosomal fractions with a series of ultracentrifugation steps and another technique to separate mitochondrial, cytosolic and nuclear fractions with a rather simple centrifugation steps. My research was awarded with two personal grants, however due to personal reasons I couldn’t pursue them. I have also contributed a book chapter to an edited volume on AMPK function in carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism.

  • Postdoctoral Researcher
    April 2014 --- December 2014
    During my work in the Molecular Physiology group of the NEXS department I participated in different projects related to glucose metabolism, became more familiar with skeletal muscle physiology and exercise and learned the techniques to study substrate and energy metabolism such as ex-vivo muscle incubations. Immunohistochemical staining of different cytoskeletal proteins in single fibres as well as transverse muscle sections and imaging constituted a big part of my work. My work in the NEXS department gave me two publications. Another manuscript (co-authored) which addresses beta-actin involvement in glucose utilization is under preparation for publication.

  • PhD in Cardiac Metabolism (Life Sciences)
    April 2009 --- December 2013

    My PhD research focused on the identification of molecular mechanism in the regulation of cardiac substrate uptake. My work revealed novel regulatory steps in fatty acid transporter CD36 and glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) mediated cardiac fatty acid and glucose uptake in response to physiological stimuli like insulin and contraction.
