During my academic career in biomedical research, I gained a solid expertise in fundamental stem cell research and immunology. I am familiar with project planning and delivery, and accustomed to establish professional collaborations within academia and biopharmaceutical industry. I am proficient in scientific/medical information retrieval, representation and communication. I learned that my strengths and passion lie in project management, scientific/medical knowledge and communication. For this reason, I am looking for a challenging opportunity in clinical research and I am convinced that my skills closely match the requirements for a position in Medical Affairs.
Project Officer Health & Food Brussels, Belgium
Since November 2016
Coordination of research projects regarding "health" and "food" topics: defining project proposals, analyzing scientific information, composing test schedules, evaluating test results, contacting external experts and specialists, writing technical reports, collaboration with editorial department for publications in magazines (Test-Aankoop magazine and Test-Gezond) or online, and providing active project follow-up.
April 2015 --- May 2016
After being successfully graduated with a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences in March 2015, I have been continuing my research work in the Lab of Pediatric Immunology at KU Leuven in the position of postdoctoral researcher. Primary objectives included research completion in view of publication in a high-impact journal in the field of stem cell research, combined with a strong emphasis on communication with collaborators and funding agencies, and supervision of starting team members.
December 2010 --- March 2015
Modulation of the natural and adaptive immune system by MultiStem® My PhD research focused on the effect of MultiStem®, a proprietary clinical-grade stem cell product of multipotent adult progenitor cells (MAPCs), on the phenotype and functionality of different kinds of immune cells (NK cells and CTLs). Similar to other adult stem cells, MultiStem is capable of long-term self-renewal and functional multi-lineage differentiation, next to displaying immune and inflammation modulating properties. Therefore, it is currently being evaluated in the clinic as an allogeneic ‘off-the-shelf’ product for cardiovascular and neurological repair, and as immunotherapy in immune-associated disorders. During my doctoral research, the in vitro immunological behavior of MultiStem was analyzed and evidence was provided that MultiStem is low immunogenic and has potent immunosuppressive effects on NK cells and CTLs. In addition, we have contributed to a better understanding of this complex immune regulatory mechanism. These data represent an extensive contribution to the current knowledge and will be valuable to optimize future clinical studies on the immunotherapeutic function of adult stem cells in general. I have obtained a broad expertise in both fundamental stem cell research and immunology through working in close collaboration within academia (lab of Clinical Immunology and Stem Cell Institute Leuven) and biopharmaceutical industry (Athersys/ReGenesys BVBA). I have acquired technical know-how including cell culture, immune cell isolation, immunological assays, flow cytometry, fluorescence-associated cell sorting, microscopy and standard techniques (PCR, ELISA and Western Blot). I have gathered experience in experimental design, scientific communication, project planning and delivery. I discussed my work in peer-reviewed publications and during presentations at (inter)national meetings. Additionally, I have supervised and mentored interns and undergraduate students.
