Secondary metabolism by industrially improved Penicillium chrysogenum strains Functional analysis of the secondary metabolite gene clusters with a view to the transcriptional activation and identification of the silent secondary metabolite pathways in filamentous fungi P.chrysogenum. The combination in this study of the molecular cloning, transcriptome and metabolome approaches revealed the function of several PKS genes and clarified the impact of the industrial strain improvement program on the secondary metabolism of P.chrysogenum beyond the penicillins biosynthesis.
