    Quantum criticality in correlated metals, a Grüneisen parameter study Under the guidance of Dr. A. de Visser, of the Electronic Structure of Novel Materials group, I carry out experiments at very low temperature (down to 30 mK) in strongly correlated electron systems, such as heavy fermion systems and ferromagnetic superconductors (like the recently discovered UCoGe). We focus on the study of different types of quantum critical points, i.e. a phase transition at zero temperature, to provide the experimental basis for the development of a general theory for these peculiar transitions. Experimentally I developed a dilatometer for very low temperatures, that measures thermal expansion down to 30 mK with a sensitivity of 0.01 A.
