Summary

My professional goal is to obtain a position in R&D in which I could use my biological expertise to solve new challenges and add value to the company’s projects. My major interest lies in biotech industry, with special focus on diagnostics or vaccine development. Specialties: research experience in the fields of immunology and parasitology, hands-on experience in bioassay development, antibody engineering and biopanning by phage display.

Experiences

Current Experience

  • Staff Research Associate II
    Since May 2014
    - Projects: • Protease substrate profiling by FRET and Multiplex Substrate Profiling by Mass Spectrometry (MSP-MS) • Discovery, characterization and production of antibody fragments against particular targets - Technical skills: enzymatic assays, FRET, MSP-MS, antibody discovery, cloning, phage display, panning, protein expression, ELISA, purification and characterization, HPLC/FPLC

Past Experience

  • PhD student
    February 2009 --- August 2013
The reasons that made me pursue the academic path towards becoming a PhD were of different nature. My PhD project has given me an opportunity to tackle a neglected disease, which represents a challenge, by using innovative tools for diagnosis (the ‘Nanobodies®’). It has also allowed me to interact and collaborate with people who actually suffer the consequences of such a disease in their daily life. Finally, it offered me the possibility of moving to another country and thus encountering a new culture and language. The main two goals of my research are: 1) Develop a Nanobody®-based diagnostic tool for animal trypanosomiasis that can supersede the current methods which lack the desired sensitivity (enclosed within the frame of a European Project called Nanotryp) 2) Gain insight into the poorly understood immunopathology of trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma vivax.
