Holding a PhD in biochemistry, I studied the interaction of endothelial and tumor cells through circulating microRNAs. MicroRNAs are small non coding RNAs regulating gene expression at post-transcriptional levels. Recently, they have been detected outside of cells in microvesicles called exosomes. These particles allow the communication between cells due to the transfer of their content. However, no information was known regarding the role of endothelial exosomes and their circulating microRNAs on tumor development. To investigate this topic, I used functional assays of angiogenesis and tumor growth as well as several techniques of molecular biology in order to characterize endothelial exosomes and analyze their microRNA content. This led me to the identification of an antitumor microRNA able to reduce tumor cell proliferation and invasion whose expression is regulated upon neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatments in the context of breast cancer.
Personal profile: Deep background in angiogenesis, tumor development, microRNA analysis and exosomes characterization. Good mastery of classical methods of molecular biology, common use of RNA and qRT-PCR techniques, practice of cell culture routinely and experience in in vivo experiments with mice.
Transversal skills: writing projects, reports and publications in peer-reviewed journals, managing projects and scientific staff, presenting data in internal and international meetings as well as in multidisciplinary teams.
