Current Experience

  • PhD candidate - Department of Human Biology.
    Since November 2012
During my PhD, I investigated the adipocyte-driven mechanism for weight regain after weight loss in a complex human dietary intervention study. In this study, sixty-one healthy overweight/obese participants followed either a 5-week very low calorie diet (500 kcal/d) or a 12-week low calorie diet (1250 kcal/d) with subsequent a 4-week weight stable diet, and a 9-month follow-up. Main activities focused on: - Planning and organization of the human dietary intervention. - Working with human participants. - Preparation of collected samples (such as RNA and protein isolation from adipose tissue). - Analysis of samples (such as western blot, LC-MS/MS, microarray, ELISA) - Data management and statistical analysis of research data - Interpretation of research data - Presenting to - and discussing research outcomes with research specialists - Scientific writing and publication of research in peer-reviewed journals - Presenting scientific work at research meetings and congresses - Giving lectures and practicals to students - Supervision of students during their internships

Past Experience

  • Senior Internship - Department of General Surgery.
    November 2011 --- June 2012
Senior internship of the Master education program. Research was conducted on accelerating murine wound healing by injection of in vitro polarized M2 macrophages into mice.

  • Junior Internship - Department of Neuroscience.
    February 2011 --- June 2011
Junior internship of the Master education program. During this internship research focused on the influences of early gestational stress on the brain of murine mothers, especially looking into hippocampus and nucleus accumbens.

  • Senior internship bachelor - Department of Haematology.
    November 2009 --- June 2010
Senior internship of the Bachelor education program. During this internship research focused on the effects of the pneumatic tube system on trombocyte activity and function.

  • Junior internship bachelor - Department of Biochemistry.
    September 2008 --- February 2009
Junior internship of the Bachelor education program. Research was conducted on creating and checking mutations in Protein C.
