Through my scientific career I have gained an extensive set of hard skills ( chemical and biological laboratory experience, proficiency in several complex measurement techniques) together with a solid background in data statistics and image processing, and a pertinent set of soft skills (leadership skills, time management, problem-solving, decision-making, adaptability, critical thinking, proactive, team player). My PhD research project was part of an intense collaboration between KU Leuven/IMEC and VIB, Leuven, Belgium, allowing me to gain laboratory and scientific experience in a multidisciplinary research environment. During my scientific career I have tackled with different biomedical topics focused on the tuning of biomaterials surface properties in order to improve biocompatibility and on the study of diseases (Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer) at molecular and cellular and tissue level.


Past Experience

  • PhD student Leuven, Belgium
    November 2010 --- October 2016

    The main research topic of my PhD project was, firstly, the study of the aggregation process of the Aβ peptides (small peptide responsible for Alzheimer disease) and, secondly, the interaction of the Aβ aggregates with the neurons membrane by means of Bio–AFM/Force Spectroscopy. I have employed the AFM - Imaging mode for monitoring the aggregation behavior of the Aβ peptides and AFM - Force Spectroscopy for quantitatively evaluate the interaction forces that occur between the Aβ peptides and the cells membrane at single molecule level. 
    I have vast experience tackling also with other nanomedicine research topics revealed by the collaboration with Peter Carmeliet lab (VIB, Belgium) in the study of cancer metastasis, and furthermore, by the collaboration with Kirsten L. Van Landuyt lab (KU Leuven, Belgium) related to the study of new dental materials.
